Wet and cool weather flowed from November into December
with 72mm of rain falling in the month. Our annual total rainfall reached
1,180mm. When I say “cool” I mean we averaged a maximum of 29 degrees with only
a handful of days over 30. We are certainly seeing the effect on greens of missing
the November renovation. In saying this though they are still in excellent
shape. Anthracnose is still a small issue we are dealing with but we are
getting on top of the situation. One positive of this disease is it mostly
affects Poa and in the areas where the disease is active you will see an
increase of the Bent Grass population. I’ve purchased some new tines for the
verti drain that remove a very small (4mm) core. We have trialled this on the
19th green with great success so I intend putting these tines
through all of the greens during the first few weeks of January. An increase in
irrigation output on greens has seen a spike in sodium levels in the turf plant
and soil. Thankfully though we were well prepared for this with our Gypsum
program. The tees haven’t
really taken off but have good, healthy coverage. Some tees are suffering quite
severely from wear, particular unrepaired divots. The early applications of calcium
and organic fertiliser have meant the tees have required little in terms of
maintenance so far this season. January, will see an increase in their care with some
wetting agent, synthetic fertiliser, insecticide and miticide applications. Fairways are
absolutely revelling in the current conditions. Regular growth regulator
applications are being carried out to minimise growth and thatch development. We
have a few ground staff on leave early in the New Year but once we are back to
a full complement, we will recommence the turfing of the few remaining bare
patches. Bunker sand is still on back order from early December
and several bunkers require re-facing and shaping with “undercutting” of the

As we all know November was the wettest on record, 171mm
fell at Carnarvon which was 34mm more than the Sydney total of 137mm.
Temperature-wise we averaged a 23.7o max which is mild for this time
of year. <o:p></o:p>From a Turf Management perspective, bring on more of the
same for summer!<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The greens have held up relatively well considering the
rainfall and traffic. We’re having a running battle with “Anthracnose” (a
fungal disease common in Poa during warm, moist and low sun light conditions)
which is understandable given the weather conditions over the last month. We
are starting to see some insect activity too and I expect insect pressure to
increase once we get some sunshine. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Heavy rain meant we had to delay and then cancel the Coring
of greens and opt instead for a small solid tine. This will have a negative
effect on plant health over the next couple of months but to alleviate the
stress we will carry out regular solid tining, dusting and Gypsum applications.
<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The warm, humid weather has made the tees come to life. They
have held up well during and post the Championships. The tees are really benefiting
from the Spring Calcium and Organic applications as well as the early
renovation. Even with the accelerated growth rate, it is still very
important for golfers to repair/fill their divots. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Fairways are quite literally the epitome of health now. Monthly
growth regulator and nutrient applications, coupled with high rainfall and warm
weather have really put the fairways in a fantastic place leading into what is
typically the hardest time of year. Evidence of Ground Pearl activity has been
kept to a minimum with the high moisture levels, but it is still present and
active. Ground Pearl was identified in the 5th fairway while we were
turfing bare patches. Numbers have definitely reduced, but they’re still there.
<o:p></o:p>The 11th fairway is showing signs of
improvement, and so it should with fortnightly organic and synthetic fertiliser
applications, along with regular pesticide sprays. Tree roots in the fairway
are a big problem which we will address over coming weeks.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Sand has been ordered to top bunkers but has been delayed
by production issues. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The plants on the “Floating Wetlands” are establishing
well with some plants already tripled in size.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>I’d like to wish all Members a Merry Christmas and a Happy

to fully vaccinated people. The Club made this decision for the following
reasons: <o:p></o:p><ul type="disc">
 <li class="MsoNormal" style="color: rgb(12, 20, 39); line-height: normal; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">The
 Club has a duty to ensure the health and safety of staff, Members and
 customers under the&nbsp;Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), and
 under general law.<o:p></o:p></li>
 <li class="MsoNormal" style="color: rgb(12, 20, 39); line-height: normal; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Those
 who are not fully vaccinated have a higher risk of transmitting the
 coronavirus to workers and patrons. For instance, the Doherty Modelling
 Report, prepared for the National Cabinet, states that people fully
 vaccinated with the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines have an overall
 reduction in transmission of 79% and 93%, respectively.<o:p></o:p></li>
 <li class="MsoNormal" style="color: rgb(12, 20, 39); line-height: normal; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Moreover,
 subclause 1.3(f) of the&nbsp;Public Health (COVID-19 General) Order
 2021&nbsp;states “the risk [to public health in NSW] is from and among
 people who remain unvaccinated because these people are more likely to be
 infected, more at risk of severe illness and death resulting from
 infection with SARS-CoV-2, and more likely to transmit the infection to
 others, than fully vaccinated people”.<o:p></o:p></li>
 <li class="MsoNormal" style="color: rgb(12, 20, 39); line-height: normal; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Given
 the overwhelming research supporting these findings, precluding patrons
 who are not fully vaccinated will reduce the likelihood that fully
 vaccinated staff and patrons will be exposed to the coronavirus, or
 contract COVID-19.<o:p></o:p></li>

 the Club is implementing other controls to mitigate the risk of COVID-19
 transmission, as outlined in its COVID-19 safety plan, the level of

The average temperature
during October was 230 with a few warmer days above 300.&nbsp; There was 86mm of rainfall, most of which
fell prior to, or on the 14th of October. Since then, we have
received just 4.2mm of rain which somewhat explains why the course is drying
out. Given golfing numbers are extremely high and the weather
is warming up I’m happy with the way the greens have performed throughout
October. We have started to see some dry patches develop later in the month due
to low rainfall, warmer temperatures and running a tough maintenance regime for
the Championships. Despite this the greens are clean of pest and disease and
running well. Our scheduled greens renovations have been moved from the 31st
of October to the 21st of November to accommodate Championships,
they will certainly benefit from the renovations. The tees have been a bit slow to get going but now that
we are seeing higher over-night temperatures, we will see better growth. I’m
impressed though by the way they are handling the amount of traffic going over
them and again ask Members and visitors to PLEASE REPAIR DIVOTS. We may
make some progress if players fill their divot and one other left by less
considerate golfers. Organic fertilizer was applied late in October to help the
tees through the spring. I intend to give them another verti-drain once
Championships are completed. Fairways are looking healthy, regular fertilizer and PGR
applications have helped them obtain a satisfactory cover. The 11th
fairway is taking up a lot of time and effort, but we are seeing a marked
improvement. Further root pruning will take place throughout the warmer months. Turf will also be placed in some of the larger Ground Pearl
patches, particularly on 11th, 13th and 14th. Several bunker “faces” and “lips” require shaping and

The average maximum temperature during September was 210C
and the course received 32mm of rain. A few windy days meant we had debris to
clean up but overall, the weather during the month was favourable. As a course
manager I love this time of year. The greens are in great condition and
have thoroughly enjoyed the mild weather and reduced player numbers. Seed head
control has been carried out as per usual and the last remnants of seed should
be gone by the beginning of Club Championships. With the delayed start to the championships,
we will be rescheduling the October/November renovations to the 21st
&amp; 22nd of November. We will carry out a small solid tine in
early October to help the greens during the busy Championship period. Tees are
waking from their winter nap and recovering well from the early renovation they
received in August. Applications of calcium and organics are being well
received and will play a pivotal role in their condition in the late spring, early
summer period. Apart from one or two tees I’m very happy with the coverage on the
tee surfaces. The tees are responding well to the Poa/Kikuyu control program
and are mostly clear from these weeds. After renovations and amendments in August we dropped the
height of the mower cut on fairways to 10mm. This has now been raised slightly.
Fairways have benefited from this process, as well as regular rainfall, and
are currently in great shape leading into the Championship period. A first
application of insect preventative and control was carried out in late August
and will be followed up regularly over the coming months. Turf will be laid
over bare Ground Pearl areas in October and throughout the growing season. The
11th fairway is improving slowly and will benefit from some planned
turfing during Spring. Follow up applications of organics and gypsum are also
scheduled for the 11th fairway, as well as further tree and tree
root pruning. The path on the 14th has been laid and work is
slowly progressing on its surrounds. As per the Grant a new garden at the back
of the ladies’ tee will be established and fresh soil and turf around the path
will continue to be laid. The floating wetlands were “sent to sea” in
mid-September. They stand out a bit at present with the bright white netting
which is protection from birds vandalising or nesting in them while the plants
establish. The nets will be removed in March ’22 at which time the effect will

COVID-19 Update 30/9/2021

August was a dry month until the last week when 70mm of
rain was delivered to the course in a two-day deluge. The rain could not have
come at a better time with renovations being completed just a few days prior
and the course closed due to COVID restrictions. The days were warm with an
average maximum of 190C and only three light and one heavy frost. The
greens were renovated with 16mm hollow tines to a depth of around 100mm. Forty
tonne of USGA top dressing was applied and rubbed in followed by soil amendment
applications. With the rain and a two week closure the greens recovered very
well and are extremely healthy. Poa seed suppression began as scheduled early
in the month with the second application going out at the end of August and the
3rd and final application is scheduled for the end of September. The tees were cored with 19mm hollow tines while the
course was closed, and I hope to follow up in November. The tees have come
through winter quite well and certainly enjoyed the break during the course
closure. Surfaces are clean of weeds besides the odd stubborn patch of Kikuyu
which should be taken care of with upcoming herbicide applications. Gypsum and
organics will be applied to tees in mid-September. The fairways
were renovated with 19mm hollow tines during the renovation week. Cores were
then rubbed in with a steel drag mat and the loose debris blown into the rough.
Five tonne of Calcium was spread over the fairways. The height of cut has been
dropped to 10mm to chop out any thatch and Poa, this height will be raised to
12mm once the first Primo application takes place in September. There are still
a few small bare patches from Ground pearl, and I hope to have these areas
turfed as soon as I can get a full team back on site. With some good rain
predicted through this summer I believe we can really start to get the fairways
back into great condition. Extra organic and gypsum applications have and will continue
to be carried out on the 11th fairway in the coming weeks. Tree root pruning was carried out on a couple of areas on
11th during August and in renovation week arborists removed some
dead trees on the 1st and 16th and some dead wood was

Floating wetlands, funded by the Golf NSW Foundation, were
delivered on the 3rd of September and the first of three have been
‘launched’. The wetlands are designed to vegetate ponds, waterways, dams and
water bodies requiring either an aesthetic treatment, habitat production or

Update on Covid19 and the impact this has had on the Club and many Carnarvon Members Just prior to the onset of the Covid19 pandemic in 2020, Carnarvon endeavored to make reciprocal agreements with 5 local golf clubs with no positive responses from the clubs that we approached. The NSW Government has placed Health Orders that have affected registered clubs throughout the Greater Sydney Area from 26 June until the latest order on 20 August 2021. The first Order closed all licensed clubs from 6.00pm on 26 June 2021 and this effectively has stopped any worthwhile trade from our club and will continue until the Order is lifted. Amendments to the original Order have been added which has impacted many of our members. Initially the Order allowed all members to travel to Carnarvon to exercise from anywhere in the Greater Sydney area. The Order was amended on 9 July 2021 with an exemption to allow golfers to travel only 10km from their residence to play golf (exercise) and golf was to only be played in pairs. This had the effect of halving the number of Carnarvon members who were allowed, under the order, to play golf. Declared Local Government Areas (LGA) with more stringent restrictions came into force at the same time and Carnarvon was in a declared LGA. There was no compensation offered or given to golf clubs for this restriction by the Government. The Board endeavoured to engage nearby golf clubs to allow some sort of temporary reciprocal membership between golf clubs so that our members and members of the clubs we approached could at least play a game of golf. The next amendment was added on 30 July which allowed travel within your own LGA or to a declared LGA but only if the travel was from a non-declared LGA and within the 10km radius. If you reside in a declared LGA or LGA of concern, travel was only permitted for exercise 5km from your residence to the place of exercise (golf course). Again, there was no compensation offered or given to golf clubs for this restriction by the Government. The Order was amended on 20 August to only permit exercise for one hour in total from the time you leave your home until the time you return to your home. This amendment is in force from Monday 23 August 2021. Temporary reciprocal agreements with two nearby clubs were ready to be finalised when the Order was put in force. The Board decided that it was not possible to remain open for the purpose of exercise as defined in the order and we closed the course from Monday 23 August until the order is withdrawn or amended to allow golf to be played. The club, throughout this period and into the future, must still maintain the golf course, clubhouse and keep up lease payments. While we do get some financial support from the Government, the loss per month is $65,000 which is $30,000 more than the budgeted loss of $35,000. The club has written to the Premier regarding the severity of the restrictions placed on our golf club, but we have not yet had a response. We have also had communication from Golf NSW on how they are seeking legal advice on options for golf clubs regarding the impact on the members of clubs from the orders. We sympathise with those members, and there are many, who are severely affected by the Health Orders and unable to play golf at Carnarvon, but we can’t offer any respite or financial relief to individual members who have been restricted from playing because of the legal requirements of the Registered Clubs Act. We realise that membership fees are due this month and that the course is closed. I do remind you that we can’t put membership on hold or offer any remittance or discount because of the Government Health Order that we have no control over. If you decide to put off paying your fees until the golf course opens again you will be put on the waiting list if you have not paid you fees by the end of September. There are currently 70 prospective members on the waiting list. We, as are other golf clubs, bound by our rules and constitution which does not allow advantages to be given to individual members. We are all in the same situation, as none of us can play golf until the Health Orders are withdrawn. Let us hope that changes are forthcoming so we can get back to normality. Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927 when the game was played on an informal basis before being regularised at the first Annual General Meeting in August, 1928. The first President was Alderman W.R. Atkinson of Lidcombe Council and one of the Vice-Presidents was the Hon. J.T. Lang, Premier of New South Wales.The course which measured 4277 yards with a bogey of 75, was situated on the northern side of Parramatta Road and covered the following area : <ul><li>Western Boundary: Wetherill St. </li><li>Northern Boundary: Derby St.</li><li>Eastern Boundary: Haslam’s Creek and Hill Road.</li><li>Southern Boundary: Adderley St. Day St. then Parramatta Road to Hill Road.</li></ul>The area covered by the course included vacant proposed factory sites, unmade roads, an agistment paddock of the State Abbatoirs and portion of Southian’s dairy. The greens were the natural grasses mowed at the weekends by the members’ own push mowers. The holes were jam tins. The course was named after a large sign, visible from Parramatta Road, advertising factory sites for sale on Carnarvon Hill Estate. This sign is regarded as the first clubhouse as members drove nails into it on which to hang their coats and other paraphernalia. The first real clubhouse, known as “the Shack, was erected in 1929 on the corner of Day and Derby Streets and comprised two rooms, one 10 feet by 10 feet for members and the other 8 feet by 8 feet for associates with a 9 feet by 4 feet verandah. In 1931 the old Auburn Ambulance Station was purchased, towed to the site and added to The Shack. As tenure over the original course was tenuous at best a move was made to what became known as the “old course” in late 1932 with the official opening in 1933.The old course was located to the north of Fariola St. and occupied two paddocks owned by Newington State Hospital and a paddock to the south of Holker St. owned by Lidcombe Council. The lease from Newington State Hospital was for fifteen years under permissive occupancy tenure and covered tees and greens only. The greens were enclosed with post and rail fences as protection from our bovine co-tenants of the hospital dairy herd. The clubhouse was moved to the northern side of the eastern end of Fariola St in 1933 when extensive additions and alterations were effected. Things moved along swimmingly for the next ten years or so until the outbreak of World WarII. Our biggest disaster came on 8 March, 1943 when the clubhouse and the top paddock were taken over by the US Navy necessitating yet another move. It was decided to continue with a nine hole course consisting of the bottom paddock for seven holes with the remaining two holes in the council paddock. This became known as the Silverwater course. To accommodate a Clubhouse the committee resolved on 20 April, 1043 to purchase thecottage in Clyde St. Auburn and the adjacent eleven vacant blocks for 470 pounds Following the convention of the time it was necessary to pay 100 pounds “key money” to obtain vacant possession of the property. With renovations the cottage served as a Clubhouse until the move to the present course. The old cottage went through many years of modification, renovation, partial demolition and rebirth as a motor boat club, Auburn Businessman’s Club and is currently Dooley’s On The Water. The move to the present course was foreshadowed as early as 1943. The new course was an amalgamation of two contiguous areas separated by Walters Rd. which originally ran through from Nottinghill Rd to Joseph St. The area between Leila St. and Walters Rd. was the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and the area between Walters Rd and Amy St was the western grazing paddock of Lidcombe State Hospital for its prize winning herd of Holstein dairy cows. The areas were amalgamated, Walters Rd closed and the area leased to Carnarvon Golf Club in 1947. The course was built between the years 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East. The Clubhouse was built over the same period. Due to the difficulty in obtaining building material in the post-war years the Clubhouse was built from material obtained by demolishing the Fariola St building together with the Liverpool and Lidcombe Soldiers’ Halls. The Clubhouse and new course were opened in December, 1949. Additions and renovations kept the building functional until 1998 when the Club came under increasing pressure to bring the structure up to the required standards. The cost involved was considered uneconomic considering the condition of the underpinnings. The Board voted to build a new Clubhouse and then demolish the old building. This was completed in December, 1999. Our present course presented a horticultural challenge to the earlier Committees and course superintendents as they battled with an area of poor clay based soil, gravel patches and rock outcrops. The Committee tendered for and won the contract to remove manure from the holding paddocks at Flemington Saleyards on the site of the present Flemington Markets. The contract ran from 1957 to 1963 and most fairways were covered to a depth of six to eight inches with mostly sheep manure. This was done half a fairway width at a time to enable play to continue. This combined with automatic fairway and greens watering of more recent years coupled with extensive drainage projects, has produced the lush course we have today. To quote the late C.W.Phillips President, from his address at the A.G.M. of 27th March, 1943 :- “Finally we have a good Club built by ourselves for ourselves and those we are happy to have with us and the old Carnarvon spirit will win through notwithstanding”

 <h3>GOLF CARTS</h3>
 We have 24 fully maintained Golf Carts for your use at $50 per cart for 18 holes. Hand pulled buggies must have wide tyres. Alternatively, these may be hired from the Proshop at $5 each.
 <h3>EQUIPMENT HIRE</h3>
 Club hire is available for both left and right handed players. These can be hired from the Proshop at a cost of $25 per set.
 <h3>DRESS RULES</h3>
 We wish to maintain a dress standard commensurate with the game of golf. For men, tailored shorts and trousers, shirts must have sleeves and collars. White short socks may be worn with a length of at least 75mm above the ankle.
 Items such as football jumpers and shorts, stubbies, brief shorts, athletic shorts and singlets, tracksuits, beach attire, dirty and worn clothes are not appropriate. Any person arriving for golf not properly attired will not be allowed on the course.
 <h3>DRINKS ON THE COURSE</h3>
 A drinks cart is available for hire at a cost of $40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. A staff member is included in this charge to drive the cart in accordance with RSA law. All beverages must be purchased from the Club.

 Tentative bookings will be held for a period of 10 days only, after which time the date will be released. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be paid with each confirmed booking. If the function proceeds, the total deposit will be credited to the customer’s account.
 Menus, beverage arrangements, entertainment, audio-visual requirements, room plans, starting and finishing times must be confirmed in writing 14 days prior to the function.
 Final numbers must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to the day of the event. These numbers may be increased up to 48 hours prior to the day, but not decreased.

Become a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club today
The following outlines the process involved in becoming a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club.
Subscription levels are set annually by the Board each year, commencing 1 September. Subscription rates may be adjusted to reflect a pro rata amount, relative to the remaining months of the financial year.
 
1. Completing the Application Form with Application Fee
<ul>
<li>Please ensure that all sections of your application form have been completed in full. An incomplete form may delay your application.</li>
<li>Application forms are available from the reception area of the Club, or may be filled out via our online membership form.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Completed application forms can be submitted to the office in person or electronically.</li>
<li>Please note, a non-refundable application fee of $350 is required to secure a place on the Carnarvon Golf Club wait list. This excludes those applying for Intermediate 1, Junior or Sub Cadet Categories. The application fee is non-transferrable</li>
<li>Payments can be made by cheque or cash if an application is submitted in person. Applications sent by email, must make payment via credit card.</li>
</ul>

2. Approval
<ul>
<li>Once an application form has been received, the form will be posted onto our Members' Notice Board for a period of not less than 7 days.</li>
<li>The application will be considered at the next Board of Directors Meeting. The Board reserves the right to reject any application without providing a reason for their decision. In the event an application is rejected, the application fee will be refunded.</li>
<li>All applicants will be invited to and must attend an interview with the respective Captains.</li>
</ul>

3. Fees
<ul>
<li>All new members must then pay the annual subscription or pro rata amount relative to the remaining months of the current financial year.</li>
<li>Annual subscriptions may be paid in installments, that being monthly* or half yearly*.</li>
<li>*Please be aware that the Club does not offer monthly or half yearly memberships and members must ensure that the annual subscription is always payable in full, regardless of any installment methods that may be allowed from time to time.</li>
</ul>

4. Payment&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Once approved by the Board of Directors, new members will receive a tax invoice for their membership.</li>
<li>Upon payment of the prescribed fees, you will be issued with; Your Membership Card, Fixtures Book &amp; Rules of Golf Book</li>

Conditions of Entry to Competitions
As of 1 January 2015 all visitors must have played a minimum of 3 of their last 20 games at a Home Club nominated by GOLF Link. &nbsp;Failure to comply will make players ineligible to win all trophies, including ball competition.
Visitors will be welcome to participate in Saturday Competitions* (conditions apply) provided the above criteria has been met regarding trophy allocations.
*Saturday Competitions are Members Invitational Member Invitations will no longer apply to Sunday competitions effective 3 March 2024.

<h1>1. Weather and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>Summer arrived with notably warm conditions, recording an
average maximum temperature of 31°C. There were 19 days exceeding 30°C,
including 10 days over 35°C. Rainfall for December was low, totalling just
33mm, resulting in only 92mm since October. The annual rainfall in 2025 was
1,182mm, which is around the average and 132mm more than 2024. Strong winds
persisted throughout December, further intensifying the dry conditions.<o:p></o:p><h1>2. Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>Despite challenging weather, the greens performed
exceptionally well. Poa experienced some stress from sodium and a touch of
Anthracnose during the prolonged heat, but recovery has been strong. Green
speed remained consistent at 10’6”. Plans are in place to verti-drain greens in
early January to enhance air movement, and increased dusting will be
implemented to prevent thatch and improve infiltration. Overall, the health and
presentation of the greens is excellent, positioning us well for the expected
difficult weather in the coming 8–12 weeks.<o:p></o:p><h1>3. Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>Tees are coping well with the warmer weather, though some
dry patches persist due to poor soil, tree roots, and environmental factors.
Renovated tees have fully recovered and will receive organic fertiliser in
early January to strengthen both plant and soil. Turf on the 3rd and 12th tees
has established well despite the heat and is currently being mown at 18mm, with
plans to gradually reduce to the target tee height of 10mm.<o:p></o:p><h1>4. Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>Fairways are variable, with some areas remaining very dry
and others lush and healthy, primarily based on soil condition and tree root
influence. Irrigation is ongoing where practical, but water supply limitations
are a concern. Outside of Ground Pearl affected zones, fairways are in good
condition. Ground Pearl trials were postponed in December due to high winds,
short weeks, and a busy golf schedule. These trials will resume as soon as

Dear Members and Local Residents,Current Status of the MMP Proposal to Convert the Course into a Cemetery As we enter 2026, the board and I wanted to provide a clear and up-to-date overview of the ongoing situation regarding the Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) proposal to repurpose our Carnarvon Golf Course site as a cemetery. &nbsp;This update draws from recent communications with MMP representatives, government statements, parliamentary discussions, and community feedback. While there have been no major breakthroughs since late 2025, the proposal remains active and our advocacy efforts continue to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome.<o:p style=""></o:p>Background and Proposal Details The NSW State Government, through MMP, has identified Carnarvon Golf Course as a preferred site for a new cemetery to address Sydney's projected shortage of burial spaces. &nbsp;MMP reviewed over 1,000 potential locations against criteria like suitability, accessibility, and environmental factors before selecting our 45-hectare site. &nbsp;This stems from long-term planning to tackle "30 years of inaction" on burial needs, as noted by Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper.The proposal involves converting the course into a "memorial park," which MMP promotes as a community space.&nbsp; However, this has faced strong pushback due to the loss of recreational green space in Western Sydney, where urban density is increasing.<o:p style=""></o:p>Importantly, our lease remains secure until 2035, as confirmed directly by Minister Kamper. <h1>Weather
and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>It was not long ago that we were all hoping for the rain to
stop, but now the situation has reversed, and we are again wishing for rain.
The course received 45mm of rainfall throughout November, following just 15mm
in October. This amounts to 60mm over a 61-day period. The weather conditions
have been notably challenging, with eleven days exceeding 30 degrees and an
average maximum temperature above 28 degrees. Additionally, 28 days were marked
by persistent wind and elevated UV and evapotranspiration rates, resulting in
extremely dry conditions across the golf course.<o:p></o:p><h1>Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>The greens have performed exceptionally well and are
currently in excellent condition as we approach what is anticipated to be a
difficult summer. In November, scheduled renovations were completed using 10mm
hollow tines, followed by the application of soil amendments and sand. A
follow-up dusting was conducted a week later to further smooth the surface.
Green speed has remained consistent, averaging 10 feet 8 inches throughout
November. Although a slight decrease in speed is expected over summer, it is
unlikely to fall below 10 feet.<o:p></o:p>Please note that during the warmer months, afternoon watering
cycles may be run on the greens between 5:45pm and 6:15pm to help keep the leaf
cool during the afternoon heat. It is also important to remember that summer
places the greatest pressure on greens due to increased pest and disease
activity. Unrepaired pitch marks create opportunities for these issues to
develop, so all players are encouraged to repair pitch marks on the greens. If
you are unable to locate your own, please repair another one.<o:p></o:p><h1>Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>The tees are responding well to the heat and increased
irrigation, showing good recovery following November’s scheduled renovations.
These works included verti-draining with 19mm hollow tines, rubbing back the
cores, and applying the appropriate fertilisers. The Par 3 tees are continuing
to improve, albeit slowly. <o:p></o:p>Players are
reminded to fill divots on tees to help maintain the best possible playing
surface.<o:p></o:p><h1>Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>The fairways were looking excellent until the onset of dry
heat. Despite irrigating them three times a week, this has not been sufficient,
and while most areas are holding up, turf quality has declined where soil is
poor or tree roots are intrusive. Renovation plans for the fairways will be
postponed until conditions improve. On a positive note, progress is being made
in managing Ground Pearl; there appears to be a reduction in both numbers and
damage in the trial areas, though it is still early days.<o:p></o:p><h1>Other
Works<o:p></o:p></h1>Tree work was completed around the 12th green and in front
of the 13th tee, prompted by a large Tallow-wood tree falling in the wind.
While the arborist was onsite, additional dead and hazardous trees and limbs

Rainfall and Weather October was exceptionally dry, recording only 15mm of
rainfall for the entire month, with nearly two-thirds of that total falling on
the last day. The average maximum temperature reached 28 degrees, and there
were even a couple of days when the mercury soared close to 40 degrees. Looking
ahead, we are hoping for increased rainfall during November and into the
Christmas period to help the course recover and thrive.Greens Throughout October, the greens performed exceptionally well
despite the dry, windy conditions. Green speeds averaged 10 feet 8 inches
during championships, and the quality of the playing surfaces has been highly
satisfactory. Prior to the scheduled renovations on the 9th and 10th of
November, soil testing has been completed to ensure the best possible outcomes.
The renovation process will involve the use of an 8mm hollow tine, the addition
of soil amendments, and a layer of sand. This year, a new piece of renovation
equipment will be demonstrated on the putting green. The machine utilises
high-pressure water to create holes in the soil profile and simultaneously
pulls sand into these holes in a single action, resulting in a renovated green
with sand-filled core holes.Tees The warm weather in October has led to significant
improvement in the tees, particularly on holes 3 and 12, while the remainder
are in excellent condition.All players are reminded that applying sand to divots,
especially on the par 3 tees, assists tee recovery.<o:p></o:p>



Tee renovations are scheduled for November following the
completion of the greens and will be carried out over several days to avoid
disrupting the golf program. The process will include a 19mm hollow tine, with
the extracted cores and spoil being rubbed back into the tee.Fairways The fairways have also coped well with the dry conditions,
though by the end of the month, the need for rain became apparent. Regular
applications of fertiliser and pigment have helped to maintain their health and
supported their recovery from winter. A granular fertiliser was applied just
before the rain at the end of October, and its effects should start to show in
early November. We are now on the fourth application of the latest Ground Pearl
trial product, which appears to be yielding positive results. Monitoring will
continue as we enter the active months for this species. Plans are also in
place to carry out fairway renovations during November, involving scarifying
with a trail-behind unit and coring with the Ventrac. As always, the schedule
will depend on the weather, and work will be spread over several days to
