Most of 129mm of rain we experienced fell in the middle
of the month resulting in another wet month. We know autumn is here when the average
maximum temperature for the month is 21 degrees.
Heavy rain at the beginning of May has ensured our start to Winter will be much
soggier than we would like. The weather has such a massive impact on our day-to-day
maintenance and programming, as you’ll see throughout the report. Given the amount of rainfall and traffic received by the
greens over the last month, I’m very happy with their condition. Speeds have
increased to an average of 10’ 2”. Cutting frequency has been decreased
slightly to keep on top of speeds. We have seen a few small patches of fungal
disease in some areas due to the prolonged wet weather and cloud cover.
However, these patches are very small and are of no consequence to the golf
ball. Early June will see the use of the “Air2G2” over our greens. This is a
form of aeration where hollow tines are pushed down into the profile and
pressurised air is expelled into the soil. This will help relieve compaction
and assist with air and water movement within the soil profile without the
disruption of verti-draining. The tees are well on their way to dormancy. Couch grass on
the tee tops has all but stopped growing. With this, I highlight once again the
importance of repairing divots on tees, particularly the par 3 tees. A
second application of selective herbicide has been applied to tees to control
the invasion of Kikuyu. Pigment will be applied throughout winter to keep the
colour up and promote as much growth as possible. I am very happy with fairway surfaces going into Winter.
Some areas have suffered with run off and water sitting in low areas. Light rates
of fertiliser have been applied to promote some growth. Non-chemical
control/preventative applications for fungal disease have also gone out as
disease pressure remains high given the wet weather, cooler temperatures and
shorter days. We will look at the possibility of applying a pigment in June
depending on colour and turf quality/presentation. The bunkers have been on a bit of a roller coaster ride
during May. The wet weather obviously had an effect on them but they recovered
well once they dried out. Unfortunately, they didn’t get much time in the sun
as the rain returned late in the month and continued in early June. Work has
commenced on the 9th bunker with old sand and drainage being
removed. New drainage has been installed and the gravel layer will be going in

Autumn has arrived! The average maximum temperature is 25
degrees and there was 234mm of rainfall during March. Further rain has fallen
in early May, providing us with a wet and soggy leading into winter. The greens have handled the wet weather very well. We
applied some extra Gypsum and did a solid tine verti-draining in the wetter
areas &nbsp;which kept them in tip top
condition throughout April. The back edge of the 1st green along
with the front of the 18th have had and will have further light top
dressing of sand to improve water run off and infiltration in those areas. Selective herbicide has been applied to green edges to
control the invasion of Kikuyu into the greens and a second application was
applied to Couch collars for the same reason. Growth regulator will remain in
the program for Autumn and into winter to help maintain green speed and
density. As expected, the tees have begun to slow down with the
cooler weather. With the slower recovery I once again ask all players to
fill your divots on tees, and at least one more for those who fail to do so. A selective herbicide and pre-emergent have been applied
to tees to suppress Kikuyu growth and stop Poa from germinating. Soil
amendment, root growth stimulators and foliar feeds have also been applied to
boost tees into Winter. The 3rd tee continues to hold on with the
extra attention it’s been receiving and I will continue to monitor and manage
wear on that tee. Fairways enjoyed March and handled the weather in April reasonably
well. They are beginning to struggle with the continuing rain in early May,
holding water in the lower areas. Turfing of Ground Pearl patches on fairways has wrapped
up for the season with further patching scheduled for September/October when
weather warms up again. The scarified areas are recovering beautifully with
fresh dark growth. We will see the benefit of this into next season with the
reduction of thatch providing a better, flatter surface. I hope to scarify and
hollow core all fairways in Spring this year, when we will also trial a
different method of Ground Pearl patch repair.&nbsp; Bunker performance improved during April with drain and
sand rejuvenation work carried out early in the month. By the end of the month
though, performance began to subside as the old sand just couldn’t cope. As I
said last month, work will be carried out in bunkers as weather allows. We have begun the process of repairing some blocked storm
water pipes, most notable of these is the main pipeline that runs under the 16th
fairway. The drain on the 2nd green is also in the process of being

March was almost a continuation of summer with an average
maximum temperature a little over 28 degrees. Only 35mm of rain fell in March
which saw parts of the course start to dry out. The high humidity kept disease
and insect pressure on, as well as being generally uncomfortable. Greens renovations were carried out as scheduled early in
March. The hot, dry weather following renovations slightly hampered recovery,
but the greens have now recovered and are in excellent condition going into
Autumn. There are one or two small patches, such as the right edge of the 1st
green, suffering from sodium build up from irrigation. These small areas will
receive some extra love in coming weeks. Green speeds, as expected, have been slightly lower this
month as they recover from renovations but I expect to see green speed pick up
as we move into the cooler months. Autum will also see selective herbicide
applied to green and collar edges to control Kikuyu invasion. Growth on the tees are showing no signs of slowing down
with the continuing warm weather and high humidity. As per our regular tee
program, granule organics will be applied around Easter to boost tees into Autumn.
Autumn will also see an application of selective herbicide to continue the
control/suppression of Kikuyu in the Couch tee surfaces. The 3rd tee
is holding on, so far maintaining full coverage. We will consider over-sowing
this tee for the cooler months. Fairways did nothing but grow all March. We have
excellent coverage going into Winter aside from some of the drier and Ground
Pearl affected areas. Bare patches on 1 through 6 have been turfed out in our
continuing battle with Ground Pearl. A section on the 1st, 7th
and 8th fairways were scarified and we expect to see excellent
recovery to the areas. With the drier weather in March we saw a massive
improvement in our bunkers. Work has begun on clearing some drains and
rejuvenating sand. This will continue into April and throughout Winter as time
and weather allows. Tree work has been carried out on the 10th and

The very sticky and uncomfortable February weather may
have been horrible for us, but it was fantastic grass growing weather. We had
an average maximum of 30 degrees and a lot of humidity and110mm of rain fell in
February, which was just enough to keep everything green and growing. The Greens held up well in February given the petri-dish
conditions applying high disease pressure. I’m very happy with how the greens
performed during summer and have come through once again with full coverage and
little to no pest or disease activity. The Greens will benefit from the Autumn
renovations which took place on the 3rd and 4th of March.
Small 8mm hollow tines were used with sand and soil amendments applied. The Corellas
have extended their range of greens and are now attacking the 16th,
5th and others. If you do see a Corella on a green, please go out of
your way to scare it off as they cause significant damage to the green
surfaces. Couch tees are thriving in this warm humid weather, and
we are cutting tees twice a week to keep on top of them. The 3rd tee
has 100% coverage and is battling on, although it is showing signs of wear on
the back half. We will continue to give that tee the extra attention required
to keep it in shape and we may look at over-sowing with rye for the winter.
Organic fertilisers will be applied in Autumn as well as pre-emergent to
prevent the infestation of Poa-annua. Like the tees, our Kikuyu fairways are loving the warm
humid weather. Cutting 3 times per week and regular growth regulator
applications barely stops it. Turf patching was carried out on Ground Pearl
patches and will continue into March and April. De-thatching of some fairway
areas will take place in March. Corellas, ibis and to a lesser extent, Crows
are causing a bit of damage to fairway surfaces and as with greens, I ask that
if possible and safe to do so, please scare the birds off these surfaces. The bunkers have been a menace with the rain during
February but have come good later in the month. Sand has been added to a few
with another 20 tonne of sand being delivered in early March. We will give more
attention to the bunkers when the grass eventually slows down and requires less

January was an unusual month as we had 93mm of rain. The
rain has kept things nice and green, and the dam full. We experienced some warm
days with an average maximum temperature of 29 degrees. Humidity was very high with some days staying above 80%
all day, creating the perfect environment for fungal disease. In all though, I’m very grateful for the rain and hope it
continues through February. The greens stood up to the heat and humidity extremely
well although we have seen a bit of a build up of sodium (made obvious with the
yellowing of the Poa) in our water supply but this has been countered by our
soil amendment program. Greens have been a little softer during January with the,
sometimes, unpredicted rain coming after we have conducted our regular summer
irrigation program. The softer greens have seen an increase in pitch marks. I’d
like to remind all Members that an un-repaired pitch mark not only
inconveniences other golfers, but also creates an avenue for pest and disease
access into the plant.<o:p></o:p>Please repair
your pitch marks.<o:p></o:p>Our tees are in great condition and loving the weather. They
are thatching up a little in places which is to be expected at this time of
year. Divots are still an issue, though divot repair has
improved over the last few weeks. I’d like to thank those players who are filling
not only their own divots but those left by some careless players. Un-stoppable is the only word we can use to describe
fairways at present. Kikuyu just loves warm humid weather and regular rainfall.
Some areas are thatchy but as I’ve explained before, this is simply a trait of
Kikuyu. We will be hiring in a scarifier in the next few weeks to de-thatch
some areas. Regular applications of growth regulators have helped to minimise
the thatch build up but unfortunately, they can’t do the job on their own. Bunkers have been a real thorn in our side this summer.
Regular heavy storms are causing flooding and wash outs, taking up a lot of our
time to repair and drain. We’re looking forward to growth slowing in the cooler
months so we can get in and re-install some bunker drainage and sand. You
may recall the main storm water pipe leading to the 8th dam being blocked,
causing significant flooding to the 8th fairway. During January we were able to
hire in an 8 tonne excavator to clean the end of the blocked pipe on the 8th
fairway. The pipe was found to be blocked by a large Casaurina tree which has
now been removed. While the machine was here we began work on extending the
19th tee. We managed to get the majority of the material in place for the
sub-base. Material was sourced from the pile of spill located on the 18th hole.

After a few dry weeks early in the month we finished with
a much wetter start to summer than expected. The course recorded 116mm of rain
for the month with 90mm of that falling in the last 10 days. The total rainfall for the year was 838mm, which was
1,420mm less than 2022. December was warm with an average maximum temperature
of 29 degrees, including 8 days over 30degrees. We are keeping our fingers
crossed for some regular rain for the next couple of months, at night of course! The greens handled the heat and elevated holiday season
traffic well with only minor injury incurred during the mid-month heat wave.
Speeds have slowed which can be attributed to less rolling and slightly less
frequent cutting to manage the heat and the increased number of golfers. It is important to remember that the health and well
being of our greens takes priority over their speed during summer. A solid tine of greens is scheduled for mid-January to
relieve some compaction and assist in air and water movement within the
profile. The tees were beginning to feel the heat early in the
month but really appreciated the rain later on but are in great condition, showing
the benefit of earlier organic applications. The 3rd tee is doing
well and wear is being managed on the back part of the tee as much as possible,
as well as regular fertiliser and pesticide applications to keep it going. Once again, I’d like to remind members to fill divots
on tees. It is very disappointing to see the lack of care shown by some golfers,
particularly on the par 3 tees. I also ask members using the practice tee to be

with the warm start to December. The late rain and organic fertiliser
application saw them bounce back very quickly to superb condition late in the
month. As mentioned last month, we have a major blockage in the storm water
pipe on the 8th fairway. This pipe is responsible for carrying water
from Joseph Street, including the suburb on the other side of the road, as well
as all storm water collected on the course North of the 5th green. A small pipe was installed across the 8th
fairway, not to solve the problem, but to temporarily relieve some pressure on
water flow until we could hire a large excavator to clear the pipe and install
new pipes. This work should go ahead in mid-January. The bunkers have caused us nothing but headaches during
the wet weather and I intend beginning a drainage repair program, similar to

We are expecting a very hot dry summer but hopefully we
will get some regular rainfall. November provided some nice growing weather
with an average maximum of 27 degrees and 110mm of rainfall which kept fairways
green and the dams topped up. Our greens recovered well from the minor renovations
early in the month and went on to perform marvellously again throughout
November. Full, healthy coverage indicates that green speeds can be maintained
but the health and wellbeing of the turf will take priority over speed as we go
into what is predicted to be a horrendously hot summer. Dusting of greens is
scheduled for mid-December and will take place as the weather allows.As we move into
the holiday season, I ask all members to make the care of our greens <o:p></o:p>a priority by
repairing pitch marks.<o:p></o:p>The warm humid weather coupled with some extra nutrition
provided in November had a good effect on our Tees which are showing plenty of
growth. The very hot days are starting to have an effect and I’d like to remind
members again that taking take care of your divots will help them to survive
the extreme weather conditions. The 3rd tee turf has established very well and
is “knitting in” nicely. The area is now open for play but we will be spreading
the wear by having the tees forward more often than we have previously to help
the area to maintain its coverage. Warm weather and regular rainfall are the key ingredients
for Kikuyu growth, hence the condition of our fairways through November has
been fantastic. We are seeing quite a bit of Kikuyu recovery in the Ground
Pearl affected areas on the 5th and 6th which is
promising. Organic fertilizer has been applied to thinner areas, with a full
application scheduled for December. The 8th fairway has suffered some flooding
caused by a blocked storm water pipe and we are in the process of having the
pipe cleared. Thatch is beginning to build up in some areas as we were
unable to apply a scheduled growth regulator application. This will be
monitored and necessary action will be taken to remedy this situation. The bunkers struggled with the wet weather and drain
clearing and sand rejuvenation work has begun with the pits cleared and new sand
added to the 10th bunkers. The 16th bunker has performed

leaving a bunker ensure that you rake any holes and footprints
that you see. 2. As
you are walking to your next shot or waiting to play your next shot on a tee,
in the fairway or in the rough look around and fill in any divots that
you see. If you make a divot playing your shot, make sure to fill it in. 3.&nbsp;Remind
the players in your group to do the above. A very dry September with infrequent rainfall left us
with a total of 23mm for the month. Our average maximum temperature was 26o
with five days above 30 o and three of those were above 35 o.</div> The greens are in excellent condition heading into
summer. They have performed very well through October and the Championship
period. Minor renovations were carried out but were disrupted by a 37mm dump of
rain on the 6th of November. Amendments and a dusting of sand will help
them into December and we will carry out regular dusting this summer to combat
the thatch that builds up during the season. The warmer weather and recent rain have helped the tees.
The back half of the 3rd tee has been stripped and resurfaced with
turf from the 7th tee. This will remain out of play until the end of
November to give it the best possible chance to establish.All players

practice rounds<o:p></o:p>to help protect
the Teeing area&nbsp;The 7th tee turf was replaced with new turf
brought in from the turf farm. Coring of tees will take place in late
November/early December. Again, I’ll take this opportunity to ask members to fill
divots on tees, particularly Par 3 tees as they really show wear
with the high number of golfers playing the course. The fairways have dried out considerably, probably the
driest we’ve seen them for some time. This can be attributed to the lack of
rainfall, invading tree roots and poor soil quality. Recent rain has helped to
rejuvenate them along with regular irrigation to keep them going. Ground Pearl
patches have been turfed on several fairways and will continue throughout the
season. Bunkers had remained trouble free until the heavy rain in
early November. The collapsed face of the 11th bunker has been

Course Managers Update - Around the Greens in November 2023

We had a very
dry start to Spring with only 7mm of rain falling in the first 28 days but the
63mm deluge late in the month brought the total to a more respectable 70mm. September was unseasonably
warm with our average maximum sitting just a shade under 25 degrees. The course
survived 8 days of temperatures over 30 degrees and 3 days where the
temperature was over going over 35 degrees. Despite the
weather conditions the Greens performed extremely well throughout September and
into the beginning of the Club Championships. Poa seed is well under control
and greens are flat, firm and fast. Course
renovations are scheduled to begin on Sunday 5th
November
and will be completed on Monday 6th November. Further
tree work will be conducted while the course is closed for the renovations. The tees have woken
from their Winter slumber with nighttime temperatures reaching 16 degrees.
Synthetic fertilizer was applied during September to assist in this process and
miticide and insecticide have also helped the tees grow into their current
condition. The 3rd tee has seen
some growth and is on the road to recovery. I’d like to remind members to use the
sand buckets provided, particularly on par 3 tees, to fill divots to
assist with maintaining the tee surfaces. The fairways fought
their way through the dry weather in September and bounced back with the heavy
rainfall we experienced towards the end of the month. Ground Pearl control is
scheduled to take place soon and some turf patching was carried out in
September on the 17th fairway with
further patching to be carried out during the spring. De-thatched
areas on the 17th and 8th have recovered as expected.
De-thatching with mowers and the coring unit will continue to be carried out as
required throughout the season. Be assured that this process does not have a
negative impact on the overall health and well-being of the turf. The lip of the
7th bunker has been cut back again to stop balls
lodging underneath.&nbsp; Overall, the bunkers have been relatively trouble free during September
with the exception of some flooding late in the month but I was pleased with

Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927 when the game was played on an informal basis before being regularised at the first Annual General Meeting in August, 1928. The first President was Alderman W.R. Atkinson of Lidcombe Council and one of the Vice-Presidents was the Hon. J.T. Lang, Premier of New South Wales.The course which measured 4277 yards with a bogey of 75, was situated on the northern side of Parramatta Road and covered the following area : <ul><li>Western Boundary: Wetherill St. </li><li>Northern Boundary: Derby St.</li><li>Eastern Boundary: Haslam’s Creek and Hill Road.</li><li>Southern Boundary: Adderley St. Day St. then Parramatta Road to Hill Road.</li></ul>The area covered by the course included vacant proposed factory sites, unmade roads, an agistment paddock of the State Abbatoirs and portion of Southian’s dairy. The greens were the natural grasses mowed at the weekends by the members’ own push mowers. The holes were jam tins. The course was named after a large sign, visible from Parramatta Road, advertising factory sites for sale on Carnarvon Hill Estate. This sign is regarded as the first clubhouse as members drove nails into it on which to hang their coats and other paraphernalia. The first real clubhouse, known as “the Shack, was erected in 1929 on the corner of Day and Derby Streets and comprised two rooms, one 10 feet by 10 feet for members and the other 8 feet by 8 feet for associates with a 9 feet by 4 feet verandah. In 1931 the old Auburn Ambulance Station was purchased, towed to the site and added to The Shack. As tenure over the original course was tenuous at best a move was made to what became known as the “old course” in late 1932 with the official opening in 1933.The old course was located to the north of Fariola St. and occupied two paddocks owned by Newington State Hospital and a paddock to the south of Holker St. owned by Lidcombe Council. The lease from Newington State Hospital was for fifteen years under permissive occupancy tenure and covered tees and greens only. The greens were enclosed with post and rail fences as protection from our bovine co-tenants of the hospital dairy herd. The clubhouse was moved to the northern side of the eastern end of Fariola St in 1933 when extensive additions and alterations were effected. Things moved along swimmingly for the next ten years or so until the outbreak of World WarII. Our biggest disaster came on 8 March, 1943 when the clubhouse and the top paddock were taken over by the US Navy necessitating yet another move. It was decided to continue with a nine hole course consisting of the bottom paddock for seven holes with the remaining two holes in the council paddock. This became known as the Silverwater course. To accommodate a Clubhouse the committee resolved on 20 April, 1043 to purchase thecottage in Clyde St. Auburn and the adjacent eleven vacant blocks for 470 pounds Following the convention of the time it was necessary to pay 100 pounds “key money” to obtain vacant possession of the property. With renovations the cottage served as a Clubhouse until the move to the present course. The old cottage went through many years of modification, renovation, partial demolition and rebirth as a motor boat club, Auburn Businessman’s Club and is currently Dooley’s On The Water. The move to the present course was foreshadowed as early as 1943. The new course was an amalgamation of two contiguous areas separated by Walters Rd. which originally ran through from Nottinghill Rd to Joseph St. The area between Leila St. and Walters Rd. was the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and the area between Walters Rd and Amy St was the western grazing paddock of Lidcombe State Hospital for its prize winning herd of Holstein dairy cows. The areas were amalgamated, Walters Rd closed and the area leased to Carnarvon Golf Club in 1947. The course was built between the years 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East. The Clubhouse was built over the same period. Due to the difficulty in obtaining building material in the post-war years the Clubhouse was built from material obtained by demolishing the Fariola St building together with the Liverpool and Lidcombe Soldiers’ Halls. The Clubhouse and new course were opened in December, 1949. Additions and renovations kept the building functional until 1998 when the Club came under increasing pressure to bring the structure up to the required standards. The cost involved was considered uneconomic considering the condition of the underpinnings. The Board voted to build a new Clubhouse and then demolish the old building. This was completed in December, 1999. Our present course presented a horticultural challenge to the earlier Committees and course superintendents as they battled with an area of poor clay based soil, gravel patches and rock outcrops. The Committee tendered for and won the contract to remove manure from the holding paddocks at Flemington Saleyards on the site of the present Flemington Markets. The contract ran from 1957 to 1963 and most fairways were covered to a depth of six to eight inches with mostly sheep manure. This was done half a fairway width at a time to enable play to continue. This combined with automatic fairway and greens watering of more recent years coupled with extensive drainage projects, has produced the lush course we have today. To quote the late C.W.Phillips President, from his address at the A.G.M. of 27th March, 1943 :- “Finally we have a good Club built by ourselves for ourselves and those we are happy to have with us and the old Carnarvon spirit will win through notwithstanding”

 <h3>GOLF CARTS</h3>
 We have 24 fully maintained Golf Carts for your use at $50 per cart for 18 holes. Hand pulled buggies must have wide tyres. Alternatively, these may be hired from the Proshop at $5 each.
 <h3>EQUIPMENT HIRE</h3>
 Club hire is available for both left and right handed players. These can be hired from the Proshop at a cost of $25 per set.
 <h3>DRESS RULES</h3>
 We wish to maintain a dress standard commensurate with the game of golf. For men, tailored shorts and trousers, shirts must have sleeves and collars. White short socks may be worn with a length of at least 75mm above the ankle.
 Items such as football jumpers and shorts, stubbies, brief shorts, athletic shorts and singlets, tracksuits, beach attire, dirty and worn clothes are not appropriate. Any person arriving for golf not properly attired will not be allowed on the course.
 <h3>DRINKS ON THE COURSE</h3>
 A drinks cart is available for hire at a cost of $40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. A staff member is included in this charge to drive the cart in accordance with RSA law. All beverages must be purchased from the Club.
 <h3>BOOKINGS</h3>
 Tentative bookings will be held for a period of 10 days only, after which time the date will be released. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be paid with each confirmed booking. If the function proceeds, the total deposit will be credited to the customer’s account.
 Menus, beverage arrangements, entertainment, audio-visual requirements, room plans, starting and finishing times must be confirmed in writing 14 days prior to the function.
 Final numbers must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to the day of the event. These numbers may be increased up to 48 hours prior to the day, but not decreased.

Subscription levels are set annually by the Board each year, commencing 1 September. An incomplete form may delay your application.</li><li>Application forms are available from the reception area of the Club, or may be filled out via our online membership form.&nbsp;</li><li>Completed application forms can be submitted to the office in person or electronically.</li><li>Please note, a non-refundable application fee of $350 is required to secure a place on the Carnarvon Golf Club wait list. This excludes those applying for Intermediate 1, Junior or Sub Cadet Categories. <h1>1. Weather and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>Summer arrived with notably warm conditions, recording an
average maximum temperature of 31°C. There were 19 days exceeding 30°C,
including 10 days over 35°C. Rainfall for December was low, totalling just
33mm, resulting in only 92mm since October. The annual rainfall in 2025 was
1,182mm, which is around the average and 132mm more than 2024. Strong winds
persisted throughout December, further intensifying the dry conditions.<o:p></o:p><h1>2. Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>Despite challenging weather, the greens performed
exceptionally well. Poa experienced some stress from sodium and a touch of
Anthracnose during the prolonged heat, but recovery has been strong. Green
speed remained consistent at 10’6”. Plans are in place to verti-drain greens in
early January to enhance air movement, and increased dusting will be
implemented to prevent thatch and improve infiltration. Overall, the health and
presentation of the greens is excellent, positioning us well for the expected
difficult weather in the coming 8–12 weeks.<o:p></o:p><h1>3. Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>Tees are coping well with the warmer weather, though some
dry patches persist due to poor soil, tree roots, and environmental factors.
Renovated tees have fully recovered and will receive organic fertiliser in
early January to strengthen both plant and soil. Turf on the 3rd and 12th tees
has established well despite the heat and is currently being mown at 18mm, with
plans to gradually reduce to the target tee height of 10mm.<o:p></o:p><h1>4. Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>Fairways are variable, with some areas remaining very dry
and others lush and healthy, primarily based on soil condition and tree root
influence. Irrigation is ongoing where practical, but water supply limitations
are a concern. Outside of Ground Pearl affected zones, fairways are in good
condition. Ground Pearl trials were postponed in December due to high winds,
short weeks, and a busy golf schedule. These trials will resume as soon as

While there have been no major breakthroughs since late 2025, the proposal remains active and our advocacy efforts continue to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome.<o:p style=""></o:p>Background and Proposal Details The NSW State Government, through MMP, has identified Carnarvon Golf Course as a preferred site for a new cemetery to address Sydney's projected shortage of burial spaces. &nbsp;MMP reviewed over 1,000 potential locations against criteria like suitability, accessibility, and environmental factors before selecting our 45-hectare site. &nbsp;This stems from long-term planning to tackle "30 years of inaction" on burial needs, as noted by Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper.The proposal involves converting the course into a "memorial park," which MMP promotes as a community space.&nbsp; However, this has faced strong pushback due to the loss of recreational green space in Western Sydney, where urban density is increasing.<o:p style=""></o:p>Importantly, our lease remains secure until 2035, as confirmed directly by Minister Kamper. <h1>Weather
and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>It was not long ago that we were all hoping for the rain to
stop, but now the situation has reversed, and we are again wishing for rain.
The course received 45mm of rainfall throughout November, following just 15mm
in October. This amounts to 60mm over a 61-day period. The weather conditions
have been notably challenging, with eleven days exceeding 30 degrees and an
average maximum temperature above 28 degrees. Additionally, 28 days were marked
by persistent wind and elevated UV and evapotranspiration rates, resulting in
extremely dry conditions across the golf course.<o:p></o:p><h1>Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>The greens have performed exceptionally well and are
currently in excellent condition as we approach what is anticipated to be a
difficult summer. In November, scheduled renovations were completed using 10mm
hollow tines, followed by the application of soil amendments and sand. A
follow-up dusting was conducted a week later to further smooth the surface.
Green speed has remained consistent, averaging 10 feet 8 inches throughout
November. Although a slight decrease in speed is expected over summer, it is
unlikely to fall below 10 feet.<o:p></o:p>Please note that during the warmer months, afternoon watering
cycles may be run on the greens between 5:45pm and 6:15pm to help keep the leaf
cool during the afternoon heat. It is also important to remember that summer
places the greatest pressure on greens due to increased pest and disease
activity. Unrepaired pitch marks create opportunities for these issues to
develop, so all players are encouraged to repair pitch marks on the greens. If
you are unable to locate your own, please repair another one.<o:p></o:p><h1>Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>The tees are responding well to the heat and increased
irrigation, showing good recovery following November’s scheduled renovations.
These works included verti-draining with 19mm hollow tines, rubbing back the
cores, and applying the appropriate fertilisers. The Par 3 tees are continuing
to improve, albeit slowly. <o:p></o:p>Players are
reminded to fill divots on tees to help maintain the best possible playing
surface.<o:p></o:p><h1>Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>The fairways were looking excellent until the onset of dry
heat. Despite irrigating them three times a week, this has not been sufficient,
and while most areas are holding up, turf quality has declined where soil is
poor or tree roots are intrusive. Renovation plans for the fairways will be
postponed until conditions improve. On a positive note, progress is being made
in managing Ground Pearl; there appears to be a reduction in both numbers and
damage in the trial areas, though it is still early days.<o:p></o:p><h1>Other
Works<o:p></o:p></h1>Tree work was completed around the 12th green and in front
of the 13th tee, prompted by a large Tallow-wood tree falling in the wind.
While the arborist was onsite, additional dead and hazardous trees and limbs

Rainfall and Weather October was exceptionally dry, recording only 15mm of
rainfall for the entire month, with nearly two-thirds of that total falling on
the last day. The average maximum temperature reached 28 degrees, and there
were even a couple of days when the mercury soared close to 40 degrees. Looking
ahead, we are hoping for increased rainfall during November and into the
Christmas period to help the course recover and thrive.Greens Throughout October, the greens performed exceptionally well
despite the dry, windy conditions. Green speeds averaged 10 feet 8 inches
during championships, and the quality of the playing surfaces has been highly
satisfactory. Prior to the scheduled renovations on the 9th and 10th of
November, soil testing has been completed to ensure the best possible outcomes.
The renovation process will involve the use of an 8mm hollow tine, the addition
of soil amendments, and a layer of sand. This year, a new piece of renovation
equipment will be demonstrated on the putting green. The machine utilises
high-pressure water to create holes in the soil profile and simultaneously
pulls sand into these holes in a single action, resulting in a renovated green
with sand-filled core holes.Tees The warm weather in October has led to significant
improvement in the tees, particularly on holes 3 and 12, while the remainder
are in excellent condition.All players are reminded that applying sand to divots,
especially on the par 3 tees, assists tee recovery.<o:p></o:p>



Tee renovations are scheduled for November following the
completion of the greens and will be carried out over several days to avoid
disrupting the golf program. The process will include a 19mm hollow tine, with
the extracted cores and spoil being rubbed back into the tee.Fairways The fairways have also coped well with the dry conditions,
though by the end of the month, the need for rain became apparent. Regular
applications of fertiliser and pigment have helped to maintain their health and
supported their recovery from winter. A granular fertiliser was applied just
before the rain at the end of October, and its effects should start to show in
early November. We are now on the fourth application of the latest Ground Pearl
trial product, which appears to be yielding positive results. Monitoring will
continue as we enter the active months for this species. Plans are also in
place to carry out fairway renovations during November, involving scarifying
with a trail-behind unit and coring with the Ventrac. As always, the schedule
will depend on the weather, and work will be spread over several days to
