Dear Members,Due to new Government restrictions, Carnarvon Golf Club is officially closed as at 12pm, Monday 23 March 2020. We are not closing the course and we are keeping the greens staff working until we are told to close the course as well. Competitions will continue as per the fixture book and booking in will be via the website at 6.00 pm on the Friday of the week before the competition date, i.e. a week prior to competition.Because of the Covid-19 virus a new local rule will be added, “All flagsticks are to be left in the hole and not touched. Golf balls are to be removed from the hole with the flagstick remaining in the hole”The half way house will be closed (may be opened in the near future, as we are currently seeking clarification from ClubNSW &amp; GolfNSW) and the only part of the club that will be open is the outside toilets which will be locked when the Proshop closes.There will be two&nbsp; screens available in the Proshop for score entry and winning vouchers will be open with no expiration date until three months after the reopening of the club.

February, what a month! 407mm of rain, top temperatures
of 47 degrees, wild storms and ridiculous humidity. Other than that it’s been a
great month for growing grass. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Our Greens
were hollow tined to 8mm early in the month in preparation for the rain. I’m
glad this was done as they handled the 407mm very well. Preventative pesticides
have done their job and kept disease and insect numbers to a minimum. A mild
outbreak of Pythium hit us late in the month where we couldn’t get our follow
up applications out due to weather. A small amount of damage can be seen on a
few greens caused by Sting Nematodes, most of which occurred in the heat
towards the end of February. Renovations are scheduled to begin on the
afternoon of Sunday the 15th of March.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Unfortunately,
the tees have not performed as well as I’d like them to. They have a
fairly good coverage but have not really thickened up since the rain. Miticides
have been applied recently to reduce couch mite activity. The 1st
Ladies tee was laser levelled and turfed late in February and was cut with a
rotary mower 8 days later. I’m hoping to have this tee cut down to the correct
height, top dressed and in play by the end of March. A big thank you to the
ladies for their patience while this project was carried out.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The fairways exploded with new growth with the rain and
humidity. After being so dry, the fairways really took the rain in very well.
360mm fell in 3 days, but we were able to have carts and bikes out just 3 days
later. Growth regulator was applied to encourage lateral growth. Some fairways
are still thin in areas, so 3 ton of granule fertilizer will be applied in
early March. I really hope to get the fairways covered by the time the cold
weather hits. Ground Pearl patches are very obvious at the moment. The ground
we made up on them last year with turfing seems to have been completely
reclaimed. Two steps forward, three steps back!<o:p></o:p> The bunkers struggled with all the rain but with the
exception of those on the 7th and the 10th , self-drained
quite well. Routine trimming of bunkers was carried out during the month and
grass faces required a growth regulator application.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Several trees were taken out by storms late in the month.
The clean up is ongoing and we will have them removed as soon as possible. <o:p></o:p>The dead trees on the Amy St boundary are to be removed
during March, along with a dead She Oak at the back of the 12th green.

We finally received some relief from the dry weather in
January with 37mm falling during the month. This was enough to get some green
back into the fairways and begin the recovery process. Several very hot days in
January kept us on our toes but generally, everything and everyone got through
unscathed.<o:p></o:p> The 1st green has suffered with high sodium
levels in the soil. Fortunately, we caught it before it got too bad with just
the Poa Annua struggling and in some cases perishing in the conditions. With
the level of sodium in the water and soil I think it’s performed quite well.
All other greens are in excellent condition and handling the heat easily. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>During the first lot of rain in January the tees were fed
with a slow release Nitrogen. They have bounced back very well and are well on
the way to full coverage. The tees will be renovated with hollow tines at the
end of February and the ladies 1st tee is still a work in progress
but will be completed in February.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>I would like to remind members and visitors to keep their
carts and buggies off the tee surfaces, particularly when the
weather is hot. For example, the 16th and 18th tees have
dead wheel marks from where carts have been driven across. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The fairways greened up practically overnight with the
first lot of rain in January. Insecticide was applied to control the burst of
insect activity that comes with rain after prolonged dry periods and no insect
damage occurred. Primo and liquid fertilizer will be applied during February to
encourage more lateral growth to fill any remaining thin areas. Turf patching
on Ground Pearl affected areas will commence in March, or even late February if
conditions allow.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The trimming and mowing of bunker faces have not been
carried out as often as I’d like due to staff holidays and the lack of

December was a month of
warm/high temperatures and very little rainfall. Just 3mm fell in December,
bringing our annual total to 603mm which is 747mm below the Sydney average
and&nbsp;430mm below the long term average for Carnarvon.&nbsp;Obviously we are
suffering with the dry just like everyone else. I’m confident we can get the
greens through the remainder of summer with the water we have in storage. It
will require some extra hand watering to reduce sprinkler use. Water test
results returned with very high levels of sodium (5 times higher than the peak
last year).&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>I’m very happy with the way greens are performing so
far this summer. We have had some extraordinarily hot days already and
prolonged dry spells but the greens are handling them easily. As mentioned the
sodium levels in our water are very high, this is/will require frequent
applications of gypsum, Magnesium, Organic acid and liquid Calcium. We have
been applying these amendments since October in preparation for this weather,
but as water quality declines, so the need for extra amendments increases. On a
positive note, the dry weather and the health of the plant has meant we have
not been under any disease pressure. Having a healthy plant also assists with
its&nbsp;resistance to hot, dry conditions.<o:p></o:p>&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>I’ve had to reduce irrigation frequency to tee
surfaces. Some tees are ok with less water while others are showing severe
signs of stress. There is life in them and they are being watered once a week
in general with the dryer ones getting extra just to keep the life in there.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>Not a great deal I can say about fairways. There are
signs of life there and believe it or not we are still<a name="_GoBack"></a>&nbsp;removing
grass when we do cut them (only every fortnight at this time). There is still a
good coverage apart from a few areas which are beginning to thin out now. It
won’t take much for them to bounce back to life once it does rain again.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>We’ve had a couple minor issues with the pumps in the
18th shed and we&nbsp;are
working on one or two minor leaks and a few inoperable decoders on fairway
irrigation at the moment.<o:p></o:p>

November was another month of below average rainfall and
above average temperatures. Just 26mm of rain fell in November, making for a
very dry start to summer. Water rationing has already commenced. Unfortunately
as water levels decline, so does the quality. I’ll be keeping a close eye on
water quality with testing to be carried out monthly from November until March.
We have begun bringing water down from the top dam to supplement the supply.The Greens are
in fantastic shape, despite the dry weather and heat I’m very happy with the
way they are performing. They have handled the weather really well with very
little dry patch and next to no disease. We made a few changes to our
maintenance/amendment program during spring and those changes are paying
dividends now. The Greens were renovated with 6mm hollow tines at the beginning
of the month and we also began our dusting program in November which will
continue throughout the growing season.The Tees have
copped a beating over the last month but will be getting a bit of love over the
next month to help them cope. Half a ton of Gypsum was applied in early
December to help with Sodium displacement in the soil, this will be followed by
an application of organic acid and a ½ inch hollow tine renovation. Construction
of the 1st ladies tee has begun and new irrigation and soil will be
going in over the next couple of weeks.The Fairways have
been ok throughout November due to the 7mm of rain which fell on the 25th
just keeping the tinge of green present into December. That tinge has now
burned off though and they will now be placed on manual, targeted watering
until such time as we receive some decent rain. No turf patching has been
carried out for obvious reasons, nor will it either until the rain returns.There have been a few issues with the ball washers
recently. I have spent time rectifying this issue and have replaced several of
these ball washers. More have been ordered for December.The Ground staff and I would like to wish all Members a

October provided us with just 42mm of rain in 4 rain
events which was enough to sustain us for the month without causing too much
disruption to play. The wind was our biggest enemy, it seemed like every Friday
we had 60km winds coming to undo the work we’d done during the week.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Greens have
been good throughout October. They withstood the few warmer days and the extra
wear placed on them with the Club Championships. The Greens renovations went
ahead as planned in early November and the moderate rainfall on the Sunday
night meant we could not top dress as we usually would. A light dusting was
applied the following Wednesday with another to follow seven days later. This
will be the beginning of regular (fortnightly) dusting taking place. The
dusting will, over time, reduce thatch and increase water infiltration. Dusting
will also help to create a much firmer and consistent putting surface.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Tees handled
the Championship period very well. They were given a good feed and heavy dose
of wetting agent in October, to which they have responded nicely and greened up
very well. The rain in October was also well received by the tees. The 1st
ladies’ tee will be resurfaced in mid-November, the top 300mm will be taken off,
fresh soil will be added and then turfed with Santa Ana.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Fairways are
still looking good, however there are signs of stress along tree lines where
roots are competing for moisture. No turf patching was done in October, but we
will pick that back up in November. Ground Pearl activity is noticeable in some
fairways with the 13th and the 6th being the most

Thank you to all who offered support over the August weekend. Carnarvon was able to raise funds of $1000 for this worthy cause. A letter from David Rogers, Chief Executive Officer &amp; Briony Lyle, #DoingItForJarrod Coordinator was recently received which has been detailed below:<hr>On behalf of everyone at Challenge, we would like to thank you for participating in the inaugural #DoingltForJarrod campaign by holding a golf day in honour of Jarrod Lyle.&nbsp; Jarrod was a member of Challenge when he was a teen and became an active Ambassador of the organisation whilst striving to be a professional golfer on the prestigious PGA Tour. Throughout his life, Jarrod battled cancer on three separate occasions. Sadly, in 2018 Jarrod lost his battle however he left behind an indelible mark and in turn, Challenge and his family will now work hard to honour his legacy - to help other children and families who are dealing with this insidious disease.&nbsp; The funds that are being raised through the #DoingltForJarrod campaign will be directed towards a new program, "Jarrod's Gift". This program will provide services that assist families with the small things to help them through their cancer journey.&nbsp; As a participant in the campaign, your club has now been entered into our Major Prize draw, which will take place on 17 October 2019.&nbsp; Three lucky winners will travel to play in the 2019 Australian PGA Championship Pro­Am being held at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.&nbsp; In addition to the Major Prize draw, your club name will be recognised on a special PGA of Australia Honour Board that will be unveiled at "Yellow Day" on Friday 20 December at the 2019 Australian PGA Championship.&nbsp; Our dream is to make #DoingltForJarrod an annual fundraising event on the golfing calendar and to continue honouring the great man Jarrod was. September was a funny old month for weather, rain, wind,
warm and cold days. We received upwards of 90mm of rain which helped the course
immensely, but it was unfortunate that it happened to fall on a Tuesday and
Wednesday. The Greens
bounced back well from renovations and started September in excellent shape. Unfortunately,
the rain and following wind meant we were delayed in a few of our post
renovation applications causing excessive Poa seed heads to effect the greens,
as well as some disease Dollar Spot and Brown Patch being visible on some
greens. Poa seed is causing greens to be a little bumpy but this will smooth
out as seed head falls off. Tees are
showing signs of life after the rain and a bit of a feed and they certainly
benefitted from solid tine aeration in August. A foliar fertilizer and wetting
agent were applied in early September as well as 500kg of Gypsum and a slow
release granular fertilizer will be applied in mid-October. Fairways were applied with 2 tonnes of granular fertilizer
in September just before the rain came and they look great with good, flat
coverage. Some areas of Ground Pearl are visible but are being managed. Emergency tree removal took place on the right side of
the first fairway after wind pushed the big Tallowwood over that protects the
15th green. Two replacement (smaller, denser) trees have been

30mm of rain fell on the 30th August after
another dry month right up until the very last day. We also had some very cold
mornings with several frosts causing some damage to fairways and surrounds.<o:p></o:p> Greens renovations
were carried out as planned on the 21st August. The grounds staff
would like to thank the volunteers who came in to lend a hand picking up cores,
you made a huge difference and gave us a great head start. The result was
fantastic with 40 ton of sand being spread over the next couple of days.
Amendments and fertiliser were applied at this time too. Greens were cut 7 days
later at 5mm and after 12 days we are back at 4mm. A regular “dusting” program
will commence at the end of September. Tees are
showing their dislike of the frost. Tee surfaces were punched with half inch
solid tines to alleviate compaction and speed up the increase of soil
temperatures. Hopefully the warm weather we’ve experienced in early September
will kick them to life. A synthetic fertiliser application is scheduled for the
end of September, or once night time temperatures reach, and hold, 16 degrees.<o:p></o:p> It is an
understatement to state that our fairways needed the rain we received in
August. Tree root infested areas are really starting to show signs of drought
stress, even though we applied plenty of irrigation. Tree root pruning will
commence in some trouble areas by the end of September. Turfing of Ground pearl
patches will also recommence during September. A synthetic fertiliser application
is scheduled for the 3rd week of September, this will give us a
burst of growth which will last through Championships and into November.<o:p></o:p> During August the Bunkers were relatively trouble free
and handled the 30mm downpour reasonably well, with only a handful requiring
pumping.<o:p></o:p> The cleared pipes on the 4th, 3rd
and the 14th have passed their first test and handled the 30mm

July was the fourth driest July on record. Only 37mm of rain
fell which was good in a way as the course doesn’t like winter rain. Even with
the nice days we’ve still had several frosts.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Greens are firm
and fast have coped quite well during July. The warm days have allowed for
growth, while the cool nights have inhibited any disease development. The Greens
are clean and ready for renovations on 21 August. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The warmer weather will assist the Tees which are worn. The Par
3 tees are suffering from high wear and the copious amounts of divots. The
Couch tees are free of any weeds besides Kikuyu, which shows our pre-emergent
program is working. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Regular light fertilizer applications on the fairways have
kept the colour up and the growth slowly continuing, ensuring they have
remained in good condition throughout winter. The plugging programme has
continued during July, but no turfing was carried out due to dormancy. Turfing
will resume in late August, early September. The first application of
Insecticide will be applied in early August, along with a herbicide application
to control flat weeds such as clover and bindii.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The top of the front bunker on the 7th was
lowered again by 450mm. Next time this bunker is done, the front of the green
will need to be lowered as well to blend correctly and to get to the
appropriate height. The face and the top of the right hand 16th
bunker has also been lowered/repaired.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>New soil bins were constructed to assist with storage of
sand and soil. The new bins stop contamination and makes a huge difference to
the area.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>























The tub-grinding and mulching of debris in the refuge area
adjacent to the 7th green was carried out as this area was a fire
hazard and a breeding ground for pests such as foxes. A program is now in place
to keep on top of any green waste collected from the course. The pipes running
from the Gross Pollutant Trap’s on 4th and 14th have been
cleared and this should alleviate flooding to those fairways when it does eventually

Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927 when the game was played on an informal basis before being regularised at the first Annual General Meeting in August, 1928. The first President was Alderman W.R. Atkinson of Lidcombe Council and one of the Vice-Presidents was the Hon. J.T. Lang, Premier of New South Wales.The course which measured 4277 yards with a bogey of 75, was situated on the northern side of Parramatta Road and covered the following area : <ul><li>Western Boundary: Wetherill St. </li><li>Northern Boundary: Derby St.</li><li>Eastern Boundary: Haslam’s Creek and Hill Road.</li><li>Southern Boundary: Adderley St. Day St. then Parramatta Road to Hill Road.</li></ul>The area covered by the course included vacant proposed factory sites, unmade roads, an agistment paddock of the State Abbatoirs and portion of Southian’s dairy. The greens were the natural grasses mowed at the weekends by the members’ own push mowers. The holes were jam tins. The course was named after a large sign, visible from Parramatta Road, advertising factory sites for sale on Carnarvon Hill Estate. This sign is regarded as the first clubhouse as members drove nails into it on which to hang their coats and other paraphernalia. The first real clubhouse, known as “the Shack, was erected in 1929 on the corner of Day and Derby Streets and comprised two rooms, one 10 feet by 10 feet for members and the other 8 feet by 8 feet for associates with a 9 feet by 4 feet verandah. In 1931 the old Auburn Ambulance Station was purchased, towed to the site and added to The Shack. As tenure over the original course was tenuous at best a move was made to what became known as the “old course” in late 1932 with the official opening in 1933.The old course was located to the north of Fariola St. and occupied two paddocks owned by Newington State Hospital and a paddock to the south of Holker St. owned by Lidcombe Council. The lease from Newington State Hospital was for fifteen years under permissive occupancy tenure and covered tees and greens only. The greens were enclosed with post and rail fences as protection from our bovine co-tenants of the hospital dairy herd. The clubhouse was moved to the northern side of the eastern end of Fariola St in 1933 when extensive additions and alterations were effected. Things moved along swimmingly for the next ten years or so until the outbreak of World WarII. Our biggest disaster came on 8 March, 1943 when the clubhouse and the top paddock were taken over by the US Navy necessitating yet another move. It was decided to continue with a nine hole course consisting of the bottom paddock for seven holes with the remaining two holes in the council paddock. This became known as the Silverwater course. To accommodate a Clubhouse the committee resolved on 20 April, 1043 to purchase thecottage in Clyde St. Auburn and the adjacent eleven vacant blocks for 470 pounds Following the convention of the time it was necessary to pay 100 pounds “key money” to obtain vacant possession of the property. With renovations the cottage served as a Clubhouse until the move to the present course. The old cottage went through many years of modification, renovation, partial demolition and rebirth as a motor boat club, Auburn Businessman’s Club and is currently Dooley’s On The Water. The move to the present course was foreshadowed as early as 1943. The new course was an amalgamation of two contiguous areas separated by Walters Rd. which originally ran through from Nottinghill Rd to Joseph St. The area between Leila St. and Walters Rd. was the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and the area between Walters Rd and Amy St was the western grazing paddock of Lidcombe State Hospital for its prize winning herd of Holstein dairy cows. The areas were amalgamated, Walters Rd closed and the area leased to Carnarvon Golf Club in 1947. The course was built between the years 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East. The Clubhouse was built over the same period. Due to the difficulty in obtaining building material in the post-war years the Clubhouse was built from material obtained by demolishing the Fariola St building together with the Liverpool and Lidcombe Soldiers’ Halls. The Clubhouse and new course were opened in December, 1949. Additions and renovations kept the building functional until 1998 when the Club came under increasing pressure to bring the structure up to the required standards. The cost involved was considered uneconomic considering the condition of the underpinnings. The Board voted to build a new Clubhouse and then demolish the old building. This was completed in December, 1999. Our present course presented a horticultural challenge to the earlier Committees and course superintendents as they battled with an area of poor clay based soil, gravel patches and rock outcrops. The Committee tendered for and won the contract to remove manure from the holding paddocks at Flemington Saleyards on the site of the present Flemington Markets. The contract ran from 1957 to 1963 and most fairways were covered to a depth of six to eight inches with mostly sheep manure. This was done half a fairway width at a time to enable play to continue. This combined with automatic fairway and greens watering of more recent years coupled with extensive drainage projects, has produced the lush course we have today. To quote the late C.W.Phillips President, from his address at the A.G.M. of 27th March, 1943 :- “Finally we have a good Club built by ourselves for ourselves and those we are happy to have with us and the old Carnarvon spirit will win through notwithstanding”

 <h3>GOLF CARTS</h3>
 We have 24 fully maintained Golf Carts for your use at $50 per cart for 18 holes. Hand pulled buggies must have wide tyres. Alternatively, these may be hired from the Proshop at $5 each.
 <h3>EQUIPMENT HIRE</h3>
 Club hire is available for both left and right handed players. These can be hired from the Proshop at a cost of $25 per set.
 <h3>DRESS RULES</h3>
 We wish to maintain a dress standard commensurate with the game of golf. For men, tailored shorts and trousers, shirts must have sleeves and collars. White short socks may be worn with a length of at least 75mm above the ankle.
 Items such as football jumpers and shorts, stubbies, brief shorts, athletic shorts and singlets, tracksuits, beach attire, dirty and worn clothes are not appropriate. Any person arriving for golf not properly attired will not be allowed on the course.
 <h3>DRINKS ON THE COURSE</h3>
 A drinks cart is available for hire at a cost of $40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. A staff member is included in this charge to drive the cart in accordance with RSA law. All beverages must be purchased from the Club.
 <h3>BOOKINGS</h3>
 Tentative bookings will be held for a period of 10 days only, after which time the date will be released. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be paid with each confirmed booking. If the function proceeds, the total deposit will be credited to the customer’s account.
 Menus, beverage arrangements, entertainment, audio-visual requirements, room plans, starting and finishing times must be confirmed in writing 14 days prior to the function.
 Final numbers must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to the day of the event. These numbers may be increased up to 48 hours prior to the day, but not decreased.

<h1>1. Weather and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>Summer arrived with notably warm conditions, recording an
average maximum temperature of 31°C. There were 19 days exceeding 30°C,
including 10 days over 35°C. Rainfall for December was low, totalling just
33mm, resulting in only 92mm since October. The annual rainfall in 2025 was
1,182mm, which is around the average and 132mm more than 2024. Strong winds
persisted throughout December, further intensifying the dry conditions.<o:p></o:p><h1>2. Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>Despite challenging weather, the greens performed
exceptionally well. Poa experienced some stress from sodium and a touch of
Anthracnose during the prolonged heat, but recovery has been strong. Green
speed remained consistent at 10’6”. Plans are in place to verti-drain greens in
early January to enhance air movement, and increased dusting will be
implemented to prevent thatch and improve infiltration. Overall, the health and
presentation of the greens is excellent, positioning us well for the expected
difficult weather in the coming 8–12 weeks.<o:p></o:p><h1>3. Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>Tees are coping well with the warmer weather, though some
dry patches persist due to poor soil, tree roots, and environmental factors.
Renovated tees have fully recovered and will receive organic fertiliser in
early January to strengthen both plant and soil. Turf on the 3rd and 12th tees
has established well despite the heat and is currently being mown at 18mm, with
plans to gradually reduce to the target tee height of 10mm.<o:p></o:p><h1>4. Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>Fairways are variable, with some areas remaining very dry
and others lush and healthy, primarily based on soil condition and tree root
influence. Irrigation is ongoing where practical, but water supply limitations
are a concern. Outside of Ground Pearl affected zones, fairways are in good
condition. Ground Pearl trials were postponed in December due to high winds,
short weeks, and a busy golf schedule. These trials will resume as soon as

Dear Members and Local Residents,Current Status of the MMP Proposal to Convert the Course into a Cemetery As we enter 2026, the board and I wanted to provide a clear and up-to-date overview of the ongoing situation regarding the Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) proposal to repurpose our Carnarvon Golf Course site as a cemetery. &nbsp;This update draws from recent communications with MMP representatives, government statements, parliamentary discussions, and community feedback. While there have been no major breakthroughs since late 2025, the proposal remains active and our advocacy efforts continue to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome.<o:p style=""></o:p>Background and Proposal Details The NSW State Government, through MMP, has identified Carnarvon Golf Course as a preferred site for a new cemetery to address Sydney's projected shortage of burial spaces. &nbsp;MMP reviewed over 1,000 potential locations against criteria like suitability, accessibility, and environmental factors before selecting our 45-hectare site. &nbsp;This stems from long-term planning to tackle "30 years of inaction" on burial needs, as noted by Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper.The proposal involves converting the course into a "memorial park," which MMP promotes as a community space.&nbsp; However, this has faced strong pushback due to the loss of recreational green space in Western Sydney, where urban density is increasing.<o:p style=""></o:p>Importantly, our lease remains secure until 2035, as confirmed directly by Minister Kamper. <h1>Weather
and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>It was not long ago that we were all hoping for the rain to
stop, but now the situation has reversed, and we are again wishing for rain.
The course received 45mm of rainfall throughout November, following just 15mm
in October. This amounts to 60mm over a 61-day period. The weather conditions
have been notably challenging, with eleven days exceeding 30 degrees and an
average maximum temperature above 28 degrees. Additionally, 28 days were marked
by persistent wind and elevated UV and evapotranspiration rates, resulting in
extremely dry conditions across the golf course.<o:p></o:p><h1>Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>The greens have performed exceptionally well and are
currently in excellent condition as we approach what is anticipated to be a
difficult summer. In November, scheduled renovations were completed using 10mm
hollow tines, followed by the application of soil amendments and sand. A
follow-up dusting was conducted a week later to further smooth the surface.
Green speed has remained consistent, averaging 10 feet 8 inches throughout
November. Although a slight decrease in speed is expected over summer, it is
unlikely to fall below 10 feet.<o:p></o:p>Please note that during the warmer months, afternoon watering
cycles may be run on the greens between 5:45pm and 6:15pm to help keep the leaf
cool during the afternoon heat. It is also important to remember that summer
places the greatest pressure on greens due to increased pest and disease
activity. Unrepaired pitch marks create opportunities for these issues to
develop, so all players are encouraged to repair pitch marks on the greens. If
you are unable to locate your own, please repair another one.<o:p></o:p><h1>Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>The tees are responding well to the heat and increased
irrigation, showing good recovery following November’s scheduled renovations.
These works included verti-draining with 19mm hollow tines, rubbing back the
cores, and applying the appropriate fertilisers. The Par 3 tees are continuing
to improve, albeit slowly. <o:p></o:p>Players are
reminded to fill divots on tees to help maintain the best possible playing
surface.<o:p></o:p><h1>Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>The fairways were looking excellent until the onset of dry
heat. Despite irrigating them three times a week, this has not been sufficient,
and while most areas are holding up, turf quality has declined where soil is
poor or tree roots are intrusive. Renovation plans for the fairways will be
postponed until conditions improve. On a positive note, progress is being made
in managing Ground Pearl; there appears to be a reduction in both numbers and
damage in the trial areas, though it is still early days.<o:p></o:p><h1>Other
Works<o:p></o:p></h1>Tree work was completed around the 12th green and in front
of the 13th tee, prompted by a large Tallow-wood tree falling in the wind.
While the arborist was onsite, additional dead and hazardous trees and limbs

Rainfall and Weather October was exceptionally dry, recording only 15mm of
rainfall for the entire month, with nearly two-thirds of that total falling on
the last day. The average maximum temperature reached 28 degrees, and there
were even a couple of days when the mercury soared close to 40 degrees. Looking
ahead, we are hoping for increased rainfall during November and into the
Christmas period to help the course recover and thrive.Greens Throughout October, the greens performed exceptionally well
despite the dry, windy conditions. Green speeds averaged 10 feet 8 inches
during championships, and the quality of the playing surfaces has been highly
satisfactory. Prior to the scheduled renovations on the 9th and 10th of
November, soil testing has been completed to ensure the best possible outcomes.
The renovation process will involve the use of an 8mm hollow tine, the addition
of soil amendments, and a layer of sand. This year, a new piece of renovation
equipment will be demonstrated on the putting green. The machine utilises
high-pressure water to create holes in the soil profile and simultaneously
pulls sand into these holes in a single action, resulting in a renovated green
with sand-filled core holes.Tees The warm weather in October has led to significant
improvement in the tees, particularly on holes 3 and 12, while the remainder
are in excellent condition.All players are reminded that applying sand to divots,
especially on the par 3 tees, assists tee recovery.<o:p></o:p>



Tee renovations are scheduled for November following the
completion of the greens and will be carried out over several days to avoid
disrupting the golf program. The process will include a 19mm hollow tine, with
the extracted cores and spoil being rubbed back into the tee.Fairways The fairways have also coped well with the dry conditions,
though by the end of the month, the need for rain became apparent. Regular
applications of fertiliser and pigment have helped to maintain their health and
supported their recovery from winter. A granular fertiliser was applied just
before the rain at the end of October, and its effects should start to show in
early November. We are now on the fourth application of the latest Ground Pearl
trial product, which appears to be yielding positive results. Monitoring will
continue as we enter the active months for this species. Plans are also in
place to carry out fairway renovations during November, involving scarifying
with a trail-behind unit and coring with the Ventrac. As always, the schedule
will depend on the weather, and work will be spread over several days to
