April was yet another month for the record books with 4mm
of rain and some beautiful autumn weather. The dry/warm conditions have seen
higher irrigation requirements than usual for this time of year.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Greens are in great condition leading into winter and
have enjoyed the warmth. The warmer weather has seen some pests cause minor
damage to some green areas. Warm days and heavy dew have also seen turf
diseases like Dollar Spot and even Pythium continue through the month on top of
the “normal” disease activity for this time of year. All of these are minor and
have been controlled by following our usual management procedures.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Tees are still looking good thanks to the extended warm
weather. &nbsp;As growth and recovery have
slowed the cutting of the tee surfaces has been reduced to once a week. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Fairways are the best they’ve looked at this time of
year since 2016 thanks again to the sunshine. Several irrigation cycles have
been run through fairways during April but they are still benefitting from the
rain in March. Turf patching has continued on the 13th fairway, as
well as the end of the path on the 14th and 15th. We will
hold off laying any more turf on fairways until August or September in
anticipation of some cooler weather. During May we will do a follow up feed to
carry the colour into winter.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>















More bunkers have had their drains cleared and fresh sand
added. It is my intention during May and into June to cut all bunker edges back
to where they are supposed to be. Bunker edges have crept in over the years,

This March the average temperatures were the highest
recorded in 110 years. Rain fall was also high with a total of 155mm for the
month with 3 falls of over 20mm and one of 50mm. The Greens are recovering well from summer damage. The 2nd
green has had several plugs in the worst areas. The 3rd, 12th,
13th and 15th will only require a couple of plugs. Unfortunately, the greens renovations were delayed by a
week due to inclement weather. The postponed date also produced evening rain of
50mm after the coring. This prohibited top dressing which was further delayed
until the 31st after a further 23mm of rain fell on the 29th.
This amount of rainfall is not ideal during the renovation period but hopefully
won’t impede the recovery of the greens. During March work has been done to control Couch and Kikuyu
encroachment around green edges. The Tees are looking great and will head into winter in fine
shape. We have applied organic fertilizer to boost them into winter and to provide
a nutrient store for spring. In early April our focus will be on suppressing Kikuyu
growth and preventing winter grass germination. The fairways are really benefiting from the rain, warm Autumn weather and the new fairway mowers. Fertiliser has been applied to push
them into winter and to help them retain nutrients and slow growth. The March rain tested our bunker drainage. The compacted
sand will be loosened and or replaced above the drains during April. The Council work on the Gross Pollutant Trap’s on the 12th
and 8th is progressing slowly. Work on the 12th is
nearing completion and the stone work on the 8th looks quite good.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Shay Tasker<o:p></o:p>

February brought us 75mm of rainfall, just been enough to
keep the dams full. In regard to temperatures it was a bit milder but averages
and night time temperatures were still very high.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The greens have turned a corner in February after the
horrible January. Our water quality analysis came back with higher than normal
sodium and Chloride levels. By themselves these levels don’t look alarming but
with the low Calcium and Magnesium levels they become toxic to cool season turf
grass such as Bent and Poa. In all though, after several Gypsum, Calcium and
organic acid applications, along with a solid tine, we are seeing great
improvement and recovery both in vigour and root growth. Repair work (plugging)
has/is being carried out on the worst areas on 2,3,15 as well as bird damaged
areas on 13,19,16,5 and 18. Renovations are booked for the 17th/18th
of March and I expect this to be the final piece of the “repair puzzle”. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The tees have developed a thick thatch layer which isn’t uncommon,
but we’ll need to consider an annual thatch removal (scarifying) programme as
well as regular top dressing. Organic fertilizer will be applied during autumn
to help them into winter.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Fairways are a bit patchy with some areas showing signs
of drying out, while other areas are thick and full of thatch. Our new mowers
have arrived so this should reduce the amount of “bouncing” and “ripping” of
thicker areas. The fairways are going to require annual early season coring and
mid-season scarifying dependent on weather patterns but would be a must in
weather such as we’ve experienced this summer. Bare patches have been turfed on
17,18,1,2 and 6 this month.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Some of the lips on the faces of bunkers have grown too
thick and high and now require lowering. I’m hoping to begin this process very
shortly on the 7th bunkers, followed by the 5th. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>

We sweated through the warmest January on record with 16
days of temperatures over 35oC. The nights were very warm and there
was 31 days of high humidity. The 54mm of rainfall kept the course green and
the dams full. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Greens suffered in the heat early in the month, then
again over the long weekend. The “Catch 22” situation arose where we needed to
water to keep the greens alive, but sodium and hydrogen build up in the soil
causing root shortening, leading to dry patch which puts the plant under stress
and opens the door for disease. Several greens were hit with a fungal disease
known as Anthracnose, the worst of which are 2, 3 and 15. A couple of small
areas on these greens may require some plugs. Several applications of Gypsum
(displaces Sodium), Organic Acid (breaks down Hydrogen, in turn increasing
oxygen), and fungicides with different modes of action have been applied to
greens to combat the health issues. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>While the greens are struggling in this weather, the
Couch tees are flourishing. Primo has been applied to control growth and thatch
build up. The tees are currently being cut 3 times a week such is the amount of
growth. March will see an application of “Monument” to suppress Kikuyu in tee
surfaces and on the banks.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The fairways are being cut 3 times a week to stay on top
of thatch, and to give the mowers the best possible chance to cut through them.
The fairways look brown after cutting due to the leaf of the plant being ripped
instead of being cut by the mower cylinder. More Ground Pearl patches were
turfed in January on the 17th and 18th fairways and a
program is in place to control Billbug and Black Beetle. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The irrigation system on the 19th hole has
dropped out entirely with a wiring issue and decoder problems on 13th
have stopped some sprinklers and several small leaks have popped up. These
issues will be attended to in coming days.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The end of the path leading to the 16th tee
has been re turfed and levelled out. Turf protection matting will be laid, and
this area will be open for use on the 9th of February.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The 19th,18th,16th,13th
and 11th greens have been attacked by Corellas. The most serious
damage has occurred on the 19th. We have applied deterrent
applications which have been effective but are short lived. If you see birds on

Our annual total rainfall for 2018 was 733mm even though
this was 400mm below average the course benefitted from 123.5mm in December.
The ground staff spent a lot of time in December cleaning up storm damage and
clearing debris from the fairways.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The greens loved the milder weather and rainfall and have
handled the hot change over Christmas well. The greens were Verti-drained early
in the New Year with 8mm solid tines to reduce compaction and allow oxygen/gas
exchange, they were rolled soon after and there was no disruption to play. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The tees are in their prime in this hot/humid/wet weather
and a second application of growth regulator to tee surfaces to mean they are
tight and flat.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Thatch build up on the fairways has been limited so far
by the application of a growth regulator, but it is starting to build up in
healthier areas, such as the 8th fairway. Ground Pearl patches were
turfed on the 17th fairway during December and the turf patching of
fairways will continue with more turf coming throughout January.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The bunkers copped a beating with the heavy rain in
December, requiring pumping on 4 occasions, 2 of which were on consecutive
days. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Our irrigation system survived the storm activity in
December without damage from lightning or flooding. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>I would like to thank all the members and guests who are

Dear members, I write this letter to firstly apologise for the lack of Christmas spirit in the last newsletter. There was only one wish of a Very Merry Christmas at the end of the newsletter. The only excuse I can offer for this oversight is that the newsletter was put together in November, prior to the Christmas period. Therefore, on behalf of the Board and management of Carnarvon Golf Club I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year. Update on Funding for the Junior ProgramThe funding of the junior program has been boosted recently with donations from some current and passed members. Barry Ryan has retired from playing golf and the family of the late John Lock both donated golfing equipment to be sold for the junior development program. I would like to thank Barry and John’s family for the donations. In addition, the ladies committee held a raffle which also contributed to the junior program. Also, a special thanks to Margaret Chevell for her generous donation. News from the BoardCarnarvon Golf Club is in a similar position to the majority of golf clubs, in that we endeavour each year to meet the demands of members in the provision of a championship golf course and a clubhouse with comfortable facilities for members and their guests. Based on current and forecast figures, our golf club will incur a book loss (including depreciation) this year of around $228,000 worse than budget and a cash profit (excluding depreciation) of $216,000 lower than budget. While we are in the favourable position of having no major borrowings and minimal leasing liability, our revenue is not sufficient in the long term to meet our yearly commitments and future capital works programs. Increase in competition feesWe have had the same competition fees since 2010 and haven’t charged for social play by members but we feel that this needed to change. The Board has passed a motion to increase the competition fees by $2.00 for all competitions and to put a charge on social or practice rounds for members of $2.00. Junior members will be exempt from the charge for social or practice rounds. This will take effect from 1 January 2019. Golfing MembershipI mentioned in my last months newsletter that the Board would be looking at the current discounts for senior members. Our golfing membership numbers as at October 2018 are as follows:Full Playing : 201Six Day : 14Senior Full Playing : 150Playing : 78Senior Playing : 26Five Day : 63Time Poor : 19Intermediate 1,2,3 : 21Juniors : 6Country members : 4Life members : 4Staff members :1Social deferred members :15Veteran members : 13 This is a total of 619 golfing members. There are 279 members paying full fees, being full playing and playing members. There are 176 senior playing and senior full playing members receiving a discount of 66.66% of the full fee. To make this discount clearer the fee for Full Playing members is $1785.45 and for Playing members $1195.45 without the additional on costs of bar vouchers and affiliation fees which are the same for all categories of golfing membership. The fee for Senior Full Playing member is $595.09 and Senior Playing member is $398.44. On those figures the total discount given for this year is $199,276. If we continue to grant this discount we will not survive as a golf club. The Board will be appealing to the membership to change this discount at the next Annual General Meeting. The Board will be appealing for a rise of the senior fees to 50% of the full fee. On today’s fees that would be an increase of $297.66 for Senior Full Playing members and an increase of $199.16 for Senior Playing members which equates to an increase of $5.71 per week for Senior Full Playing members and $3.83 increase for Senior Playing members. I know this will not be received well by some members but we need to correct the balance so the club can continue to be viable. It has been very difficult to put this letter together but it needed to be done. Good follow up rain fell in November with a total of 63ml
for the month. We missed a lot of the heavy rain that fell in parts of Sydney
on the 28th with only 37ml for the day on the course. Greens were fantastic for the Open Qualifier and
renovations went ahead as planned on November 19th. Soil amendments
in the form of organics and Gypsum and a light rate of synthetic fertilizer
were applied at this time. The weather then turned warm and very windy,
hindering the recovery of the greens but recent rain has helped them to bounce
back. A light dusting will occur in early December. The Tees are doing well in these weather conditions and
are handling the wear and tear of 6 weeks of championship events very well. The
7th men’s tee is the only exception as it is suffering a bit from being
in the shade and the excessive wear it has endured. Growth regulator was applied to the fairways during
November and again in early December. This is the first-time fairways have been
in good enough health for consecutive applications in 2 years. We’re trying a
new regulation product on fairways it has the same active ingredient but a
different solvent. It is slightly stronger, so we use less of it, and hopefully
it will last a bit longer in the plant. Unfortunately, Ground Pearl is very
active now although the trial area on the 17th has showed promising
results with depleted numbers at the last count. Further trials are being
conducted and we will continue our turf planting programme to minimise the
impact on the course. Sydney Water have begun digging up the sewer to re-sleeve
the pipe between the 19th and 17th. I have been assured
this work will take between 7 to 10 days. The storm water pipe across the 4th
fairway is blocked, and I hope to negotiate with Sydney Water to get this

2018 Club Championships

On Friday 19th October, four of Carnarvons Members competed in the 29th Annual Masters Pennant Stroke Play Championship at Twin Creeks Golf Club. The Four Members to represent Carnarvon were Glenn Osborne, Stephen Bolger, Nick Sagdic &amp; Brad Lincoln. We had over 100 starters on the day, and despite some testing weather in the lead-up the course was in fantastic condition and played a tough, but fair test to all who graced the fairways of the Twin Creeks Golf Club. We would like to extend our particular thanks for the patience and understanding shown by all competitors as we navigated the course mandated no carts policy given the adverse weather late Thursday&nbsp;afternoon and evening. We are looking at ways to discount clubs and individuals for the unused cart component costs. Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927 when the game was played on an informal basis before being regularised at the first Annual General Meeting in August, 1928. The first President was Alderman W.R. Atkinson of Lidcombe Council and one of the Vice-Presidents was the Hon. J.T. Lang, Premier of New South Wales.The course which measured 4277 yards with a bogey of 75, was situated on the northern side of Parramatta Road and covered the following area : <ul><li>Western Boundary: Wetherill St. </li><li>Northern Boundary: Derby St.</li><li>Eastern Boundary: Haslam’s Creek and Hill Road.</li><li>Southern Boundary: Adderley St. Day St. then Parramatta Road to Hill Road.</li></ul>The area covered by the course included vacant proposed factory sites, unmade roads, an agistment paddock of the State Abbatoirs and portion of Southian’s dairy. The greens were the natural grasses mowed at the weekends by the members’ own push mowers. The holes were jam tins. The course was named after a large sign, visible from Parramatta Road, advertising factory sites for sale on Carnarvon Hill Estate. This sign is regarded as the first clubhouse as members drove nails into it on which to hang their coats and other paraphernalia. The first real clubhouse, known as “the Shack, was erected in 1929 on the corner of Day and Derby Streets and comprised two rooms, one 10 feet by 10 feet for members and the other 8 feet by 8 feet for associates with a 9 feet by 4 feet verandah. In 1931 the old Auburn Ambulance Station was purchased, towed to the site and added to The Shack. As tenure over the original course was tenuous at best a move was made to what became known as the “old course” in late 1932 with the official opening in 1933.The old course was located to the north of Fariola St. and occupied two paddocks owned by Newington State Hospital and a paddock to the south of Holker St. owned by Lidcombe Council. The lease from Newington State Hospital was for fifteen years under permissive occupancy tenure and covered tees and greens only. The greens were enclosed with post and rail fences as protection from our bovine co-tenants of the hospital dairy herd. The clubhouse was moved to the northern side of the eastern end of Fariola St in 1933 when extensive additions and alterations were effected. Things moved along swimmingly for the next ten years or so until the outbreak of World WarII. Our biggest disaster came on 8 March, 1943 when the clubhouse and the top paddock were taken over by the US Navy necessitating yet another move. It was decided to continue with a nine hole course consisting of the bottom paddock for seven holes with the remaining two holes in the council paddock. This became known as the Silverwater course. To accommodate a Clubhouse the committee resolved on 20 April, 1043 to purchase thecottage in Clyde St. Auburn and the adjacent eleven vacant blocks for 470 pounds Following the convention of the time it was necessary to pay 100 pounds “key money” to obtain vacant possession of the property. With renovations the cottage served as a Clubhouse until the move to the present course. The old cottage went through many years of modification, renovation, partial demolition and rebirth as a motor boat club, Auburn Businessman’s Club and is currently Dooley’s On The Water. The move to the present course was foreshadowed as early as 1943. The new course was an amalgamation of two contiguous areas separated by Walters Rd. which originally ran through from Nottinghill Rd to Joseph St. The area between Leila St. and Walters Rd. was the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and the area between Walters Rd and Amy St was the western grazing paddock of Lidcombe State Hospital for its prize winning herd of Holstein dairy cows. The areas were amalgamated, Walters Rd closed and the area leased to Carnarvon Golf Club in 1947. The course was built between the years 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East. The Clubhouse was built over the same period. Due to the difficulty in obtaining building material in the post-war years the Clubhouse was built from material obtained by demolishing the Fariola St building together with the Liverpool and Lidcombe Soldiers’ Halls. The Clubhouse and new course were opened in December, 1949. Additions and renovations kept the building functional until 1998 when the Club came under increasing pressure to bring the structure up to the required standards. The cost involved was considered uneconomic considering the condition of the underpinnings. The Board voted to build a new Clubhouse and then demolish the old building. This was completed in December, 1999. Our present course presented a horticultural challenge to the earlier Committees and course superintendents as they battled with an area of poor clay based soil, gravel patches and rock outcrops. The Committee tendered for and won the contract to remove manure from the holding paddocks at Flemington Saleyards on the site of the present Flemington Markets. The contract ran from 1957 to 1963 and most fairways were covered to a depth of six to eight inches with mostly sheep manure. This was done half a fairway width at a time to enable play to continue. This combined with automatic fairway and greens watering of more recent years coupled with extensive drainage projects, has produced the lush course we have today. To quote the late C.W.Phillips President, from his address at the A.G.M. of 27th March, 1943 :- “Finally we have a good Club built by ourselves for ourselves and those we are happy to have with us and the old Carnarvon spirit will win through notwithstanding”

 <h3>GOLF CARTS</h3>
 We have 24 fully maintained Golf Carts for your use at $50 per cart for 18 holes. Hand pulled buggies must have wide tyres. Alternatively, these may be hired from the Proshop at $5 each.
 <h3>EQUIPMENT HIRE</h3>
 Club hire is available for both left and right handed players. These can be hired from the Proshop at a cost of $25 per set.
 <h3>DRESS RULES</h3>
 We wish to maintain a dress standard commensurate with the game of golf. For men, tailored shorts and trousers, shirts must have sleeves and collars. White short socks may be worn with a length of at least 75mm above the ankle.
 Items such as football jumpers and shorts, stubbies, brief shorts, athletic shorts and singlets, tracksuits, beach attire, dirty and worn clothes are not appropriate. Any person arriving for golf not properly attired will not be allowed on the course.
 <h3>DRINKS ON THE COURSE</h3>
 A drinks cart is available for hire at a cost of $40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. A staff member is included in this charge to drive the cart in accordance with RSA law. All beverages must be purchased from the Club.
 <h3>BOOKINGS</h3>
 Tentative bookings will be held for a period of 10 days only, after which time the date will be released. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be paid with each confirmed booking. If the function proceeds, the total deposit will be credited to the customer’s account.
 Menus, beverage arrangements, entertainment, audio-visual requirements, room plans, starting and finishing times must be confirmed in writing 14 days prior to the function.
 Final numbers must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to the day of the event. These numbers may be increased up to 48 hours prior to the day, but not decreased.

In 2025, we hosted our inaugural Mark Hughes Foundation Beanie for Brain Cancer Charity Golf Day and raised an amazing $15,088 for the Foundation! We are still so thankful to everyone who contributed to the days success. Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children, and adults aged under 40 in Australia, yet alarmingly very little is known about brain cancer, its causes or how its treated. 
 That&rsquo;s why Carnarvon Golf Club has decided to help for the second year! Join us for our upcoming Mark Hughes Foundation Beanie for Brain Cancer Charity Golf Day on Friday 19 June 2026, to help us raise much needed funds to help find a cure to brain cancer. We have set an even bigger goal this year - aiming to raise more than $20K for the MHF. Every team that registers will see a portion of their entry fee, made as a donation. Plus we will raise funds through our auctions and raffle.

Become a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club today
The following outlines the process involved in becoming a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club.
Subscription levels are set annually by the Board each year, commencing 1 September. Subscription rates may be adjusted to reflect a pro rata amount, relative to the remaining months of the financial year.
 
1. Completing the Application Form with Application Fee
<ul>
<li>Please ensure that all sections of your application form have been completed in full. An incomplete form may delay your application.</li>
<li>Application forms are available from the reception area of the Club, or may be filled out via our online membership form.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Completed application forms can be submitted to the office in person or electronically.</li>
<li>Please note, a non-refundable application fee of $350 is required to secure a place on the Carnarvon Golf Club wait list. This excludes those applying for Intermediate 1, Junior or Sub Cadet Categories. The application fee is non-transferrable</li>
<li>Payments can be made by cheque or cash if an application is submitted in person. Applications sent by email, must make payment via credit card.</li>
</ul>

2. Approval
<ul>
<li>Once an application form has been received, the form will be posted onto our Members' Notice Board for a period of not less than 7 days.</li>
<li>The application will be considered at the next Board of Directors Meeting. The Board reserves the right to reject any application without providing a reason for their decision. In the event an application is rejected, the application fee will be refunded.</li>
<li>All applicants will be invited to and must attend an interview with the respective Captains.</li>
</ul>

3. Fees
<ul>
<li>All new members must then pay the annual subscription or pro rata amount relative to the remaining months of the current financial year.</li>
<li>Annual subscriptions may be paid in installments, that being monthly* or half yearly*.</li>
<li>*Please be aware that the Club does not offer monthly or half yearly memberships and members must ensure that the annual subscription is always payable in full, regardless of any installment methods that may be allowed from time to time.</li>
</ul>

4. Payment&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Once approved by the Board of Directors, new members will receive a tax invoice for their membership.</li>
<li>Upon payment of the prescribed fees, you will be issued with; Your Membership Card, Fixtures Book &amp; Rules of Golf Book</li>

Conditions of Entry to Competitions
As of 1 January 2015 all visitors must have played a minimum of 3 of their last 20 games at a Home Club nominated by GOLF Link. &nbsp;Failure to comply will make players ineligible to win all trophies, including ball competition.
Visitors will be welcome to participate in Saturday Competitions* (conditions apply) provided the above criteria has been met regarding trophy allocations.
*Saturday Competitions are Members Invitational Member Invitations will no longer apply to Sunday competitions effective 3 March 2024.

<h4>Weather/Rainfall</h4>
Summer has officially concluded; however, March&rsquo;s conditions closely resembled those of February, with an average maximum temperature of 28&deg;C&mdash;only slightly lower. A total of 85mm of rainfall was recorded, which maintained soil moisture and ensured the dams remain full.
<h4>Greens</h4>
The greens have performed exceptionally well, exhibiting full recovery following the previous month&rsquo;s renovations. With the onset of autumn, vegetative growth has begun to slow, resulting in increased green speeds, which averaged 9&rsquo;7&rdquo; for March. Selective herbicide applications have been recommended along kikuyu perimeters in order to manage encroachment. The greens remain free from any disease or pest activity and are in excellent condition moving into the new season. In light of the recent rainfall, solid tining is scheduled for April to promote oxygenation within the soil profile.
<h4>Tees</h4>
The tees are currently displaying optimal coverage and health as autumn approaches. A decrease in growth and recovery rates is anticipated with the arrival of cooler temperatures. Members are respectfully reminded to maintain the quality of the tees by repairing and filling divots, particularly on the Par 3 tees.
<h4>Fairways</h4>
The fairways are in outstanding condition. It should be noted, however, that Corellas have been observed causing damage to the closely mown turf. Members are encouraged, when possible, to discourage these birds from remaining on the fairways by guiding them towards the rough, thereby helping to preserve turf quality.
<h4>Planned Works</h4>
There are plans to commence sand replacement and repair of selected bunker faces. These tasks are currently postponed pending repairs to the drainage pipe traversing the 4th fairway. It is anticipated that this work will proceed in late April, once vegetative growth slows and staffing levels normalise after the run of short weeks. Initial repairs to the 4th fairway drainage will be temporary until a jet truck can be engaged to conduct a comprehensive clearance of the main line.

Following the January 2026 update, we have received further direct communication from Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP). This provides important clarity on the consultation feedback process, and I wanted to share it with you immediately.
&nbsp;
Current Situation as of 20 March 2026
&nbsp;
Yesterday (19 March 2026) MMP CEO Denise Ora advised: &ldquo;MMP has now completed their collation and consolidation of the consultation feedback and have provided this to the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure.&rdquo;
&nbsp;
She confirmed that their website will be updated with this wording. However, when asked whether this also means the report has been supplied to the Minister, Ms. Ora stated she &ldquo;can&rsquo;t comment that it means it is with the Minister yet&rdquo; and can &ldquo;only comment that we have provided to the department (that is truly all I know). That is the process.&rdquo;
&nbsp;
She also undertook to advise on any additional updates &ldquo;as and when I can.&rdquo;
&nbsp;
No timeline was provided for the public release of the report or for sharing it with key stakeholders (including Carnarvon Golf Club), despite the earlier commitment from MMP Chairman Ken Morrison. This will be the question we continue to ask.
&nbsp;
The proposal itself remains under active review with no final decision made by Minister Kamper or the Government. Our lease remains secure until 2035, the parliamentary petition debate and Cumberland City Council&rsquo;s call for a Portfolio Committee No. 4 inquiry are still live, and community opposition remains strong and coordinated.

<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">Email the NSW Legislative Council Portfolio Committee No. 4 at <a href="mailto:%20portfoliocommittee4@parliament.nsw.gov.au">portfoliocommittee4@parliament.nsw.gov.au</a> urging approval of the inquiry into the MMP proposal (reference Cumberland City Council&rsquo;s 19 November 2025 resolution and your personal reasons).</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">Contact Minister Kamper, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully, Minister for Housing Rose Jackson, Premier Chris Minns, and your local MPs.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">Continue supporting community action groups and our club&rsquo;s advocacy &ndash; don&rsquo;t forget the Pink Army event on Tuesday the 5th of May from 8am outside Parliament.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">If you have not yet done so, please add your voice to any remaining government channels.</li>

We will continue to press for the immediate public release of the full consultation report (as assured by Minister Kamper in Budget Estimates) and for a clear timeline for all stakeholders. This latest update from MMP is another step we can reference in our ongoing advocacy.

<h2>Weather and Rainfall</h2>
Hooley dooley, what a ride it has been this past month. While the average maximum temperature hovered just over 30 degrees, which might not seem too extreme, the humidity was relentless and made conditions challenging. February brought an impressive 190mm of rain, with a staggering 138mm falling within just over two hours right before the Carnarvon Cup. As a result, by the end of summer our main dams were completely full, and the course profile was thoroughly waterlogged. Here&rsquo;s hoping for a much drier Autumn ahead.
<h2>Greens</h2>
Despite the difficult weather, the greens have thrived and continued to improve. There is now full coverage across all green surfaces, and the plant health is excellent. The combination of warmth, rainfall, and humidity typically creates ideal conditions for pests and disease, but our greens have remained free from both. As anticipated, green speeds dipped slightly but stayed above the 9&rsquo;6&rdquo; benchmark.
Renovations were carried out under tough conditions and went as well as could be expected. The greens were verti-drained using 8mm hollow tines, then lightly sanded, rolled, and had soil amendments added. Subsequent rainfall helped to wash in the last of the sand, and we were able to cut the greens at 4mm just three days later. The cutting height will be gradually reduced to the standard 3-3.5mm over the coming days.
<h2>Tees</h2>
Couch grass has flourished in the current climate, which suits its preference for heat, rain, and humidity. As a result, the tees are in excellent condition, boasting full cover and a thick, healthy sward. New turf areas on holes 3 and 12 were opened for play in early February. Unfortunately, these areas suffered considerable damage from members, who failed to properly care for the turf, rarely filling divots with sand. Because of this, the new turf areas have been withdrawn from regular play. The team has worked hard to prepare and maintain these areas, as they have with all tees, making the situation especially disappointing.
<h2>Fairways</h2>
Like the couch grass, the Kikuyu fairways have responded positively to February&rsquo;s climate. To manage the vigorous growth, mowing frequency was increased to three times a week, alongside regular nutrition and applications of plant growth regulator. However, the drain area on the 4th fairway has become problematic due to a completely blocked stormwater pipe. We are actively working behind the scenes to identify the best solution for this issue.
<h2>Bunkers</h2>
The bunkers held up well until the heavy rainfall at the end of the month, after which they suffered some damage and loss of sand. We will be working through the bunkers to repair damage and replace the washed-out sand. On a positive note, the new bunkers on holes 11 and 9 performed exceptionally well; the recently installed drainage systems proved effective, as barely a grain of sand was out of place.
Members are reminded to avoid walking up the face of these bunkers and to always enter and exit from the lowest point.
