Course Managers Update - Around the Greens in September 2025
Published Tuesday, 21st October 2025
September was mostly dry,
warm, and windy with 90mm of rain early in the month. Average highs reached
24.5°C, and over 20 windy days quickly dried things out; we are now hoping for
more rain.
Greens are performing well despite
not being able to carry out the spring renovations due to wet weather. The soil
amendments and Poa seed controls have assisted with maintaining green health.
September green speed averaged 10’1” and greens are healthy, pest-free, and
dense. Afternoon irrigation may occur; please do not interfere with sprinklers,
which run for three minutes each.
The tees are coming out of dormancy,
showing vibrant growth after early fertilisation. Par 3 tees are recovering,
with further work planned soon. Tee renovation is set for November over several
days, including hollow coring and debris removal.
Fairways look good except for
Ground Pearl and flood-prone areas, where growth is slow. Turfing GP patches
will begin this spring, with renovation and sprigging scheduled for November
depending on rainfall.
The bunkers struggled in the early part of September but
have come good as the weather has dried up. Sand has been a little compacted
with the wet, and work has been carried out to alleviate some of this
compaction. The new bunkers on the 11th
are complete and in play. Surrounding turf is developing but please avoid
walking on faces or edges until established.
Tree work was done on the 9th and is
planned for the 11th fairway in November.
