Head Golf Professional Update Announcement

Dear Members,

As many of you know, our current Head Golf Professional Mike Callaby has decided to retire this year.  We are very pleased to announce that we have appointed Gerry Hyde to be Mike’s replacement.  Gerry is the current Assistant Golf Professional to Mike and has worked at Carnarvon for over 13 years.

The board went through a comprehensive process to appoint a new Head Golf Professional supported by the Australian PGA.  We were very conscious of how highly regarded Mike is along with how the Pro Shop offerings have evolved over recent years and we wanted to build on that with the new Professional. 

A number of highly qualified candidates applied for the position that was advertised by the PGA and a shortlist of candidates were invited to present to a subcommittee with their vision for the Pro Shop and what they would bring to the role.  The process was followed up with the preferred candidate being asked to present their vision to the full board.

Ultimately the board agreed that Gerrys vision to build on the legacy that Mike has made in the Pro Shop whilst also making some changes to the Prop Shop offering was the best solution and outcome for the Club.  This was further supported by Gerry’s established connection to the Club.

Gerry will take over from Mike on July 1 and Mike and Gerry will be working towards a smooth transition over the coming months.
