Juniors swing into action at Carnarvon

TWO dozen young golfers teed off at Lidcombe’s Carnarvon Golf Club on Monday for the Ray Harrison and Alec Mercer Junior Masters Golf Day.

Carnarvon’s general manager Owen Madden said they were proud to support and host the event which saw four girls and 20 boys, aged up to 17, competing for the prestigious tournament title.

“Messrs Ray Harrison and Alec Mercer are both well known in Australian Golf,” he said.
“Ray is a former Australian of the Year Nominee and Award recipient from the NSW PGA for his contributions to amateur and professional golf.

“Alec is a senior Professional Golf Australia (PGA) golfer, a former coach of the Australian Eisenhower Cup Team and a very successful golf coach in general.
“Together they have contributed over many years to amateur and professional golf by raising funds and coaching young male and female golfers to assist them in a career in golf.”

Mr Madden said after hosting qualifying rounds for the Australian Open over the past three years and the Australian Schoolboys Championships, the Carnarvon Golf Club is a challenging test for up and coming golfers.
