Thank you to all who offered support over the week. Carnarvon was able to raise funds of $5050 for this worthy cause. A letter from David Rogers, Chief Executive Officer &amp; Briony Lyle, #DoingItForJarrod Coordinator was recently received which has been detailed below:<hr>Dear Mike and Carnarvon Golf Club members, Thank you for so much for participating in the 2020 #DoingItForJarrod campaign&nbsp;(#DIFJ) in memory of Jarrod Lyle.It is difficult to comprehend that Jarrod has not been with us for the past two years. He&nbsp;was committed and dedicated to improving the lives of children and families living with&nbsp;cancer, and we are proud that we can continue Jarrod’s work through this campaign.In 2019, this initiative began so that we could raise funds for Challenge, in particular&nbsp;Jarrod’s Gift which is a program developed to honour Jarrod’s memory. Jarrod believed&nbsp;that it was the little things that make a difference to families travelling the cancer&nbsp;journey.One of the little things Jarrod identified as being vitally important for families is around&nbsp;knowledge and education. Being able to comprehend what is happening to your child&nbsp;when they receive a cancer diagnosis is paramount for a family as it helps to&nbsp;understand the treatment process and stages they will travel through. We have been&nbsp;working on a number of illustration books where cartoon characters tell a story about&nbsp;cancer. These books will help guide children and families through a difficult time.Financial assistance is another area that is essential for families, especially during this&nbsp;very difficult Covid-19 period. Predictions of a wet spring were cast aside in November
with just 48.5mm of rain, all of which fell at the beginning of the month when
we were carrying out the renovations of the greens. We also experienced some
nasty weather towards the end of the month with hot, dry winds causing most of
the debris on the course. Often by the time we had cleared the fairways the
wind had blown the leaves and bark back onto the fairways! <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The scheduled greens renovations went ahead on Monday the
2nd of November. The wet weather meant that we could not top dress the
surface, so we opted to use small solid tines and dusted a week. Due to this
change we will need to do a mini core of the greens during December. Although
we had to make changes to the way the renovations were done the greens have
performed very well during November. A small outbreak of “Anthracnose” later in
the month affected the poa in some areas but we are well on top of that now and
an extra application of Gypsum and organic Acid are scheduled over the coming
weeks and months to cater for the increased sodium levels found in recent
testing of our irrigation water.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Tees
were renovated with 13mm hollow tines during the early part of the month with
cores being broken up with a steel drag mat then blown into the rough. An organic
fertiliser was applied followed by a medium top dress with USGA construction
sand. Tees have come up a treat with plenty of growth and recovery considering
the excessive number of divots and general wear.<o:p></o:p>Please fill your divots and if waiting on Par 3’s
fill those left by less considerate golfers. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The fairways stood
up pretty well during November, but Ground Pearl activity is becoming very
obvious with the Poa dying off. Granular fertiliser was applied early in the
month to encourage growth over thin areas and turfing of Ground Pearl patches
was carried out in November on some fairways and will continue in December.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The decline in the presentation of our bunkers over the
last two months is due to the break down of the bunker rake machine. We are
having difficulty finding replacement parts but hope the situation will be
resolved in early December. In the interim we will continue to hand rake the
bunkers and with the return to normal use of the bunkers we ask Members to also
rake the bunker after use.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>1,500 cubic metres of silt, rubbish and weed was removed
from the middle dam on 18th. The creek will be cleaned out once it
dries out enough to get equipment in safely. The large dam is currently being
treated and should be clear of the brown sediment soon. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>We have discovered a leak in the main irrigation line
coming out of the 8th pump shed but this should be rectified by the
11th of December when we replace a near-by butterfly isolation valve.<o:p></o:p>&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>I’d like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas, all

October presented us with a very wet last week during
which we received 68 of the 74mm of rain for the month. <o:p></o:p>The Greens
have performed very well throughout October and remained clean of pest and disease
outbreaks. The worst of our problems on greens is the small amount of fairy
ring evident in the 6th green. Poa seed has all but vanished with
just a small amount remaining on a few greens. On the 2nd of
November, an 8mm hollow tine renovation was conducted on all greens. The Tees
have been renovated with a 12mm hollow tine and a top dressing.The benefit of the renovation in August and the
application of soil amendments has resulted in the tees being in great
condition and able to withstand a busy October. <o:p></o:p>&nbsp;It would certainly assist the performance of our tee
surfaces if golfers would repair their divots, particularly on the par 3 tees.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The coring and the heavy rain toward the end of the month
ensured that the fairways performed quite well over the last month. The growth
regulator program has commenced, and the fairways have received 2 successive
applications for the first time in 3 years. Turf patching will continue in
November and it is good to see that the new patches on the 11th and
13th&nbsp; &nbsp;are establishing well. Three tonnes of
synthetic fertilizer will also be applied in November to take advantage of the
predicted rainfall.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The work on the 18th dam has begun,
unfortunately the rain in the week prior made the work area wetter than we
would have liked and slightly impeded progress. The damage was repaired before
the equipment was taken from the site and after 3 days approximately 600m3 of

September was the driest month of the year so far with
just 33mm of rain falling in the month. We enjoyed lovely Spring weather with
warm days and cool nights. Weather-wise it was a tame month except for the very
last week where we received some remarkably strong winds.The greens have come out of winter with excellent
coverage. As in previous years, a 9-week program was followed to reduce Poa
seed head growth, and this should result in the eradication of Poa seed by mid
to late October. The Growth regulator program was commenced in September and
mowing frequency increased for the growing and Championship season. I think the
greens are in fantastic shape heading into October and I have scheduled a mini
core for the 2nd of November, weather permitting.The tees are really picking up now and responding to the
warmer days and fertilizer applications we applied during September.
Insecticide and Miticide were also applied during September to control certain
pests including Couch Mite and Black Beetle. The Tees will be renovated on or
around the 2nd of November with another synthetic fertilizer
application and a calcium application planned for during the renovation time.The Course staff
see the results of their efforts at this time of the year with the fairways
looking fabulous at present. They recovered well from their renovations in
August and during September, wetting agents and foliar fertilizer applications
took place along with regular irrigation. A little more rain will benefit them
greatly and I have an application of granular fertilizer ready to go out at the
first sign of decent rain. Some Ground pearl patches are becoming evident with
the drier weather and as the Poa dies off. Some bare patches have been turfed on
several fairways including the 11th, 13th and 18th.
We will continue to patch bare areas through spring and into the early summer months
if the weather allows.Subject to fine weather some tree work around the dam
will commence on Monday the 12th of October in preparation for the

He has overseen the renovation of the Club, managed our terrific staff and worked well with the Board. July was very mild and without any significant frost or
wild weather except for one day on which the course received 75mm of the 103mm
of rainfall for the month. Our annual rainfall now stands at 804mm which is
much closer to average than in previous years. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp; </o:p>The Greens
are in fantastic condition and are enjoying the milder weather we have
experienced throughout July. The lack of frost or even a run of cold days has
allowed the greens to maintain their colour and vigour right through winter. Renovations
will take place on the 19th of August, weather permitting. We will
be using 12mm hollow tines to a depth of 100mm, followed by top dressing with
USGA spec sand and soil amendments. Preventative applications for Argentine
Stem Weevil and Pythium will be applied in August.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp; </o:p>Due to the
high golf numbers we have seen over the last few months the tees are showing a lot of damage. The markers are being
moved forward and narrowed up as often as possible to share the wear around
while also trying to give competition players as long a course as possible. The
couch on some heavily worn tees such as the par 3’s are suffering slightly
where the autumn Poa annua preventative herbicide was overlapped. This is
particularly noticeable on the 12th, 18th and a small
section on the 5th. Regardless of this the tees are clean of any Poa
and kikuyu grass. I believe that once the weather warms up and we renovate, the
tees will bounce back to full health.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp; </o:p>The fairways are
an absolute pleasure to look at at the moment. Mild weather and rainfall
coupled with monthly fertilizer applications have allowed fairways to remain in
great shape throughout the winter. A fungicide application was applied in July
to control Winter Fusarium brought on by the wet weather. Fusarium is something
we have seen in our winter fairways for years and we will be implementing a different
plan to avoid this in the future. Five tonnes of Gypsum was applied to fairways
to improve soil structure and while we don’t see an immediate response, this
will benefit turf health in the months to come. A second application will be
carried out later in the year.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp; </o:p>Bunkers have performed quite well during July. The 75mm
dump of rain did put some pressure on several of them but once they were pumped
out, they dried up quickly. Our resident fox has had a bit of a party in the 12th
bunkers this time, digging up some drainage gravel. <img src="/cdn/storage/comark_files/Nw4F5c3seXvjZwDnL/original/Nw4F5c3seXvjZwDnL.png" alt="fox.png" style="width: 185.125px; height: 112.576px;"> <o:p></o:p> The pathways have all been topped up and smoothed with
gravel, followed by 75mm of rain to wash them back out again!<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp; </o:p>In early August arborists will remove some dangerous dead
trees as well as tidy up the cypress behind the 13th tee. Also,
during August, some corridors will be trimmed and some shade issues around the

June produced 35mm of rainfall, bringing our YTD total to
701mm. Despite being slightly damp, this winter has been quite mild and we are
yet to experience our first frost.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>In mid-June, the Greens were renovated with 8mm solid tines
to relieve compaction and improve air and water movement within the soil
profile. The Greens are in fantastic condition with no disease or dry patch
problems and they remain firm and flat even with the increased foot traffic and
higher winter rainfall. Full renovations are expected to commence on the 19th
of August.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Over the
last 4 weeks the tees have improved which is incredibly positive considering
winter is a time for Couch dormancy. Tee surfaces are clean of any weed or
winter grass infestations and I expect them to be in tip top shape once the
warm weather arrives. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>There has been a bit of an increase in members practicing
on the plates which is disappointing as the dollies are placed by Green Staff
to ensure even wear. Please assist the Staff by only playing from the
designated area. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>With the milder weather over the last month the fairways
have held on to their colour nicely. Monthly applications of fertiliser and a
recent application of fungicide for “Winter Fusarium” have been carried out to
assist in the continued colour and growth into spring. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>I would encourage all players to replace and sand fill their
divots as the early replacement of the grass encourages quick regrowth and a
better playing surface for all.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Aside from the 7th green bunkers, the bunkers
have performed well during the June rainfall. Fifteen tonnes of sand has been
added to the bunkers on the back 9 holes.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Mason Bale a 1st year apprentice has been
appointed and is contributing very well to the day to day running of the

May was an interesting month weather – wise. A mixture of
warm and cool days with several cold windy fronts rolling through. In total we
received 67mm of rain in May (YTD 667mm). The course has handled the rainfall
quite well with only one or two areas requiring roping off.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Greens
were renovated with 8mm solid tines in early May to relieve compaction and
improve air and water movement within the soil profile. Dollar spot has all but
recovered now with only a few of the more heavily affected areas still visible.
The greens responded well to the solid tine and are in tip top shape heading
into winter. Soil amendments in the form of Gypsum and Magnesium have been
applied in late May to ensure our soils are in a good position going into
spring.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Tees
have really copped a beating in the last month. Non-stop golf combined with
Kikuyu control has really tested the resilience of our tee surfaces. In saying
that, there is still a nice layer of grass that will bounce back and flourish
with planned spring renovations. Further pigment applications as well as solid
tines on tee surfaces will aid in their well-being through the next 10 to 12
weeks.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Fairways have
held their colour well throughout May. Poa has germinated right across nearly
all ground pearl affected areas. Gypsum has been applied to the 11th
fairway to help improve the soil structure, and fertiliser to encourage growth.
We have begun root pruning some affected areas around the course. The 4th
and 11th fairways and the 16th green to name a few. Root
pruning will continue throughout winter.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Blake Redmond commenced work on Monday the 25th

clubhouse and operations will be compliant with all the new health guidelines
to keep our members and visitors safe. You will no doubt notice all the changes
“the new norm” we need to implement as soon as you step in the door. The new
entry requirements will require all our members and visitors to sign in and
swipe out and one of our friendly staff will be at reception to assist. For our
visitors there will also be an additional requirement to provide their phone
number to aid in contact tracing requirements, but this only needs to be done
once. We can assure you all details are held in accordance with our strict

different as we have spaced all our settings to ensure a 1.5 metre distance
between diners, cutlery will be delivered wrapped in our disposable sachets and
our friendly staff will be taking orders at your table. I can only stress
enough that bookings are essential and are limited to 10 persons only per

the case with our dining we will be taking orders and delivering your favourite

requirements are met. Gaming will also be open but with strict guidelines and capacity
limits in place with every second gaming machine turned off. There will be
signs announcing our capacity limits per room and we would ask you all work

by the Board &amp; Management, we unfortunately will not be able to offer our
dine-in experiences at Nottinghill 65. The allowable 10 person sittings under
stage one, would not be feasible as we would be sacrificing our unique dining
experience and hospitality.<o:p></o:p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">We will once again review operations as stage two comes to

Weather wise April was a great month, nice warm days and 52.5mm
of rainfall kept things damp. Growing is finally starting to slow down now with
the cool change coming through in early May.<o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Greens recovered
well from renovations and are in good condition going into the cooler weather.
Some greens suffered from an infestation of Dollar Spot, mainly the 15th
and 16th but this is now under control and in the recovery stage.
Fertilizer applications and further fungicide applications are scheduled for
early May to assist the recovery and make sure it doesn’t flare up again. The Greens
will be renovated with small solid tines in early May to assist with air and
water movement in the soil profile. The 7th Nursery is establishing
well and is being cut at 10mm and a few small areas will require attention to
increase coverage where new seed has failed to catch. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>Leading into winter the Tees are in good condition.
Selective herbicides were applied in April to control Kikuyu with a second
application due in mid-May. Pre-emergent was also applied to stop any
germination of Poa-anna. A pigment will be applied in May to help the Couch get
through the cooler weather. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>After consistent rain and warm days throughout April the
fairways are in great shape. Poa is slowly filling any thinner areas such as
Ground Pearl affected patches. May will see a Urea/Iron application to maintain
colour and growth. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Bunkers received
their usual maintenance with edging etc. Half of them also received 30 tonne of
fresh sand, with sand to be added to the other half in the May-June period. <o:p></o:p><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>On the 7th May the pump was installed on the 8Th
and repairs to the pump on the 18th will need to be completed prior

Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927 when the game was played on an informal basis before being regularised at the first Annual General Meeting in August, 1928. The first President was Alderman W.R. Atkinson of Lidcombe Council and one of the Vice-Presidents was the Hon. J.T. Lang, Premier of New South Wales.The course which measured 4277 yards with a bogey of 75, was situated on the northern side of Parramatta Road and covered the following area : <ul><li>Western Boundary: Wetherill St. </li><li>Northern Boundary: Derby St.</li><li>Eastern Boundary: Haslam’s Creek and Hill Road.</li><li>Southern Boundary: Adderley St. Day St. then Parramatta Road to Hill Road.</li></ul>The area covered by the course included vacant proposed factory sites, unmade roads, an agistment paddock of the State Abbatoirs and portion of Southian’s dairy. The greens were the natural grasses mowed at the weekends by the members’ own push mowers. The holes were jam tins. The course was named after a large sign, visible from Parramatta Road, advertising factory sites for sale on Carnarvon Hill Estate. This sign is regarded as the first clubhouse as members drove nails into it on which to hang their coats and other paraphernalia. The first real clubhouse, known as “the Shack, was erected in 1929 on the corner of Day and Derby Streets and comprised two rooms, one 10 feet by 10 feet for members and the other 8 feet by 8 feet for associates with a 9 feet by 4 feet verandah. In 1931 the old Auburn Ambulance Station was purchased, towed to the site and added to The Shack. As tenure over the original course was tenuous at best a move was made to what became known as the “old course” in late 1932 with the official opening in 1933.The old course was located to the north of Fariola St. and occupied two paddocks owned by Newington State Hospital and a paddock to the south of Holker St. owned by Lidcombe Council. The lease from Newington State Hospital was for fifteen years under permissive occupancy tenure and covered tees and greens only. The greens were enclosed with post and rail fences as protection from our bovine co-tenants of the hospital dairy herd. The clubhouse was moved to the northern side of the eastern end of Fariola St in 1933 when extensive additions and alterations were effected. Things moved along swimmingly for the next ten years or so until the outbreak of World WarII. Our biggest disaster came on 8 March, 1943 when the clubhouse and the top paddock were taken over by the US Navy necessitating yet another move. It was decided to continue with a nine hole course consisting of the bottom paddock for seven holes with the remaining two holes in the council paddock. This became known as the Silverwater course. To accommodate a Clubhouse the committee resolved on 20 April, 1043 to purchase thecottage in Clyde St. Auburn and the adjacent eleven vacant blocks for 470 pounds Following the convention of the time it was necessary to pay 100 pounds “key money” to obtain vacant possession of the property. With renovations the cottage served as a Clubhouse until the move to the present course. The old cottage went through many years of modification, renovation, partial demolition and rebirth as a motor boat club, Auburn Businessman’s Club and is currently Dooley’s On The Water. The move to the present course was foreshadowed as early as 1943. The new course was an amalgamation of two contiguous areas separated by Walters Rd. which originally ran through from Nottinghill Rd to Joseph St. The area between Leila St. and Walters Rd. was the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and the area between Walters Rd and Amy St was the western grazing paddock of Lidcombe State Hospital for its prize winning herd of Holstein dairy cows. The areas were amalgamated, Walters Rd closed and the area leased to Carnarvon Golf Club in 1947. The course was built between the years 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East. The Clubhouse was built over the same period. Due to the difficulty in obtaining building material in the post-war years the Clubhouse was built from material obtained by demolishing the Fariola St building together with the Liverpool and Lidcombe Soldiers’ Halls. The Clubhouse and new course were opened in December, 1949. Additions and renovations kept the building functional until 1998 when the Club came under increasing pressure to bring the structure up to the required standards. The cost involved was considered uneconomic considering the condition of the underpinnings. The Board voted to build a new Clubhouse and then demolish the old building. This was completed in December, 1999. Our present course presented a horticultural challenge to the earlier Committees and course superintendents as they battled with an area of poor clay based soil, gravel patches and rock outcrops. The Committee tendered for and won the contract to remove manure from the holding paddocks at Flemington Saleyards on the site of the present Flemington Markets. The contract ran from 1957 to 1963 and most fairways were covered to a depth of six to eight inches with mostly sheep manure. This was done half a fairway width at a time to enable play to continue. This combined with automatic fairway and greens watering of more recent years coupled with extensive drainage projects, has produced the lush course we have today. To quote the late C.W.Phillips President, from his address at the A.G.M. of 27th March, 1943 :- “Finally we have a good Club built by ourselves for ourselves and those we are happy to have with us and the old Carnarvon spirit will win through notwithstanding”

 <h3>GOLF CARTS</h3>
 We have 24 fully maintained Golf Carts for your use at $50 per cart for 18 holes. Hand pulled buggies must have wide tyres. Alternatively, these may be hired from the Proshop at $5 each.
 <h3>EQUIPMENT HIRE</h3>
 Club hire is available for both left and right handed players. These can be hired from the Proshop at a cost of $25 per set.
 <h3>DRESS RULES</h3>
 We wish to maintain a dress standard commensurate with the game of golf. For men, tailored shorts and trousers, shirts must have sleeves and collars. White short socks may be worn with a length of at least 75mm above the ankle.
 Items such as football jumpers and shorts, stubbies, brief shorts, athletic shorts and singlets, tracksuits, beach attire, dirty and worn clothes are not appropriate. Any person arriving for golf not properly attired will not be allowed on the course.
 <h3>DRINKS ON THE COURSE</h3>
 A drinks cart is available for hire at a cost of $40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. A staff member is included in this charge to drive the cart in accordance with RSA law. All beverages must be purchased from the Club.
 <h3>BOOKINGS</h3>
 Tentative bookings will be held for a period of 10 days only, after which time the date will be released. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be paid with each confirmed booking. If the function proceeds, the total deposit will be credited to the customer’s account.
 Menus, beverage arrangements, entertainment, audio-visual requirements, room plans, starting and finishing times must be confirmed in writing 14 days prior to the function.
 Final numbers must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to the day of the event. These numbers may be increased up to 48 hours prior to the day, but not decreased.

Become a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club today
The following outlines the process involved in becoming a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club.
Subscription levels are set annually by the Board each year, commencing 1 September. Subscription rates may be adjusted to reflect a pro rata amount, relative to the remaining months of the financial year.
 
1. Completing the Application Form with Application Fee
<ul>
<li>Please ensure that all sections of your application form have been completed in full. An incomplete form may delay your application.</li>
<li>Application forms are available from the reception area of the Club, or may be filled out via our online membership form.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Completed application forms can be submitted to the office in person or electronically.</li>
<li>Please note, a non-refundable application fee of $350 is required to secure a place on the Carnarvon Golf Club wait list. This excludes those applying for Intermediate 1, Junior or Sub Cadet Categories. The application fee is non-transferrable</li>
<li>Payments can be made by cheque or cash if an application is submitted in person. Applications sent by email, must make payment via credit card.</li>
</ul>

2. Approval
<ul>
<li>Once an application form has been received, the form will be posted onto our Members' Notice Board for a period of not less than 7 days.</li>
<li>The application will be considered at the next Board of Directors Meeting. The Board reserves the right to reject any application without providing a reason for their decision. In the event an application is rejected, the application fee will be refunded.</li>
<li>All applicants will be invited to and must attend an interview with the respective Captains.</li>
</ul>

3. Fees
<ul>
<li>All new members must then pay the annual subscription or pro rata amount relative to the remaining months of the current financial year.</li>
<li>Annual subscriptions may be paid in installments, that being monthly* or half yearly*.</li>
<li>*Please be aware that the Club does not offer monthly or half yearly memberships and members must ensure that the annual subscription is always payable in full, regardless of any installment methods that may be allowed from time to time.</li>
</ul>

4. Payment&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Once approved by the Board of Directors, new members will receive a tax invoice for their membership.</li>
<li>Upon payment of the prescribed fees, you will be issued with; Your Membership Card, Fixtures Book &amp; Rules of Golf Book</li>

Conditions of Entry to Competitions
As of 1 January 2015 all visitors must have played a minimum of 3 of their last 20 games at a Home Club nominated by GOLF Link. &nbsp;Failure to comply will make players ineligible to win all trophies, including ball competition.
Visitors will be welcome to participate in Saturday Competitions* (conditions apply) provided the above criteria has been met regarding trophy allocations.
*Saturday Competitions are Members Invitational Member Invitations will no longer apply to Sunday competitions effective 3 March 2024.

<h2>Weather and Rainfall</h2>
Hooley dooley, what a ride it has been this past month. While the average maximum temperature hovered just over 30 degrees, which might not seem too extreme, the humidity was relentless and made conditions challenging. February brought an impressive 190mm of rain, with a staggering 138mm falling within just over two hours right before the Carnarvon Cup. As a result, by the end of summer our main dams were completely full, and the course profile was thoroughly waterlogged. Here&rsquo;s hoping for a much drier Autumn ahead.
<h2>Greens</h2>
Despite the difficult weather, the greens have thrived and continued to improve. There is now full coverage across all green surfaces, and the plant health is excellent. The combination of warmth, rainfall, and humidity typically creates ideal conditions for pests and disease, but our greens have remained free from both. As anticipated, green speeds dipped slightly but stayed above the 9&rsquo;6&rdquo; benchmark.
Renovations were carried out under tough conditions and went as well as could be expected. The greens were verti-drained using 8mm hollow tines, then lightly sanded, rolled, and had soil amendments added. Subsequent rainfall helped to wash in the last of the sand, and we were able to cut the greens at 4mm just three days later. The cutting height will be gradually reduced to the standard 3-3.5mm over the coming days.
<h2>Tees</h2>
Couch grass has flourished in the current climate, which suits its preference for heat, rain, and humidity. As a result, the tees are in excellent condition, boasting full cover and a thick, healthy sward. New turf areas on holes 3 and 12 were opened for play in early February. Unfortunately, these areas suffered considerable damage from members, who failed to properly care for the turf, rarely filling divots with sand. Because of this, the new turf areas have been withdrawn from regular play. The team has worked hard to prepare and maintain these areas, as they have with all tees, making the situation especially disappointing.
<h2>Fairways</h2>
Like the couch grass, the Kikuyu fairways have responded positively to February&rsquo;s climate. To manage the vigorous growth, mowing frequency was increased to three times a week, alongside regular nutrition and applications of plant growth regulator. However, the drain area on the 4th fairway has become problematic due to a completely blocked stormwater pipe. We are actively working behind the scenes to identify the best solution for this issue.
<h2>Bunkers</h2>
The bunkers held up well until the heavy rainfall at the end of the month, after which they suffered some damage and loss of sand. We will be working through the bunkers to repair damage and replace the washed-out sand. On a positive note, the new bunkers on holes 11 and 9 performed exceptionally well; the recently installed drainage systems proved effective, as barely a grain of sand was out of place.
Members are reminded to avoid walking up the face of these bunkers and to always enter and exit from the lowest point.

<h1>1. Weather and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>Summer arrived with notably warm conditions, recording an
average maximum temperature of 31°C. There were 19 days exceeding 30°C,
including 10 days over 35°C. Rainfall for December was low, totalling just
33mm, resulting in only 92mm since October. The annual rainfall in 2025 was
1,182mm, which is around the average and 132mm more than 2024. Strong winds
persisted throughout December, further intensifying the dry conditions.<o:p></o:p><h1>2. Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>Despite challenging weather, the greens performed
exceptionally well. Poa experienced some stress from sodium and a touch of
Anthracnose during the prolonged heat, but recovery has been strong. Green
speed remained consistent at 10’6”. Plans are in place to verti-drain greens in
early January to enhance air movement, and increased dusting will be
implemented to prevent thatch and improve infiltration. Overall, the health and
presentation of the greens is excellent, positioning us well for the expected
difficult weather in the coming 8–12 weeks.<o:p></o:p><h1>3. Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>Tees are coping well with the warmer weather, though some
dry patches persist due to poor soil, tree roots, and environmental factors.
Renovated tees have fully recovered and will receive organic fertiliser in
early January to strengthen both plant and soil. Turf on the 3rd and 12th tees
has established well despite the heat and is currently being mown at 18mm, with
plans to gradually reduce to the target tee height of 10mm.<o:p></o:p><h1>4. Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>Fairways are variable, with some areas remaining very dry
and others lush and healthy, primarily based on soil condition and tree root
influence. Irrigation is ongoing where practical, but water supply limitations
are a concern. Outside of Ground Pearl affected zones, fairways are in good
condition. Ground Pearl trials were postponed in December due to high winds,
short weeks, and a busy golf schedule. These trials will resume as soon as

Dear Members and Local Residents,Current Status of the MMP Proposal to Convert the Course into a Cemetery As we enter 2026, the board and I wanted to provide a clear and up-to-date overview of the ongoing situation regarding the Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) proposal to repurpose our Carnarvon Golf Course site as a cemetery. &nbsp;This update draws from recent communications with MMP representatives, government statements, parliamentary discussions, and community feedback. While there have been no major breakthroughs since late 2025, the proposal remains active and our advocacy efforts continue to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome.<o:p style=""></o:p>Background and Proposal Details The NSW State Government, through MMP, has identified Carnarvon Golf Course as a preferred site for a new cemetery to address Sydney's projected shortage of burial spaces. &nbsp;MMP reviewed over 1,000 potential locations against criteria like suitability, accessibility, and environmental factors before selecting our 45-hectare site. &nbsp;This stems from long-term planning to tackle "30 years of inaction" on burial needs, as noted by Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper.The proposal involves converting the course into a "memorial park," which MMP promotes as a community space.&nbsp; However, this has faced strong pushback due to the loss of recreational green space in Western Sydney, where urban density is increasing.<o:p style=""></o:p>Importantly, our lease remains secure until 2035, as confirmed directly by Minister Kamper. <h1>Weather
and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>It was not long ago that we were all hoping for the rain to
stop, but now the situation has reversed, and we are again wishing for rain.
The course received 45mm of rainfall throughout November, following just 15mm
in October. This amounts to 60mm over a 61-day period. The weather conditions
have been notably challenging, with eleven days exceeding 30 degrees and an
average maximum temperature above 28 degrees. Additionally, 28 days were marked
by persistent wind and elevated UV and evapotranspiration rates, resulting in
extremely dry conditions across the golf course.<o:p></o:p><h1>Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>The greens have performed exceptionally well and are
currently in excellent condition as we approach what is anticipated to be a
difficult summer. In November, scheduled renovations were completed using 10mm
hollow tines, followed by the application of soil amendments and sand. A
follow-up dusting was conducted a week later to further smooth the surface.
Green speed has remained consistent, averaging 10 feet 8 inches throughout
November. Although a slight decrease in speed is expected over summer, it is
unlikely to fall below 10 feet.<o:p></o:p>Please note that during the warmer months, afternoon watering
cycles may be run on the greens between 5:45pm and 6:15pm to help keep the leaf
cool during the afternoon heat. It is also important to remember that summer
places the greatest pressure on greens due to increased pest and disease
activity. Unrepaired pitch marks create opportunities for these issues to
develop, so all players are encouraged to repair pitch marks on the greens. If
you are unable to locate your own, please repair another one.<o:p></o:p><h1>Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>The tees are responding well to the heat and increased
irrigation, showing good recovery following November’s scheduled renovations.
These works included verti-draining with 19mm hollow tines, rubbing back the
cores, and applying the appropriate fertilisers. The Par 3 tees are continuing
to improve, albeit slowly. <o:p></o:p>Players are
reminded to fill divots on tees to help maintain the best possible playing
surface.<o:p></o:p><h1>Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>The fairways were looking excellent until the onset of dry
heat. Despite irrigating them three times a week, this has not been sufficient,
and while most areas are holding up, turf quality has declined where soil is
poor or tree roots are intrusive. Renovation plans for the fairways will be
postponed until conditions improve. On a positive note, progress is being made
in managing Ground Pearl; there appears to be a reduction in both numbers and
damage in the trial areas, though it is still early days.<o:p></o:p><h1>Other
Works<o:p></o:p></h1>Tree work was completed around the 12th green and in front
of the 13th tee, prompted by a large Tallow-wood tree falling in the wind.
While the arborist was onsite, additional dead and hazardous trees and limbs

Rainfall and Weather October was exceptionally dry, recording only 15mm of
rainfall for the entire month, with nearly two-thirds of that total falling on
the last day. The average maximum temperature reached 28 degrees, and there
were even a couple of days when the mercury soared close to 40 degrees. Looking
ahead, we are hoping for increased rainfall during November and into the
Christmas period to help the course recover and thrive.Greens Throughout October, the greens performed exceptionally well
despite the dry, windy conditions. Green speeds averaged 10 feet 8 inches
during championships, and the quality of the playing surfaces has been highly
satisfactory. Prior to the scheduled renovations on the 9th and 10th of
November, soil testing has been completed to ensure the best possible outcomes.
The renovation process will involve the use of an 8mm hollow tine, the addition
of soil amendments, and a layer of sand. This year, a new piece of renovation
equipment will be demonstrated on the putting green. The machine utilises
high-pressure water to create holes in the soil profile and simultaneously
pulls sand into these holes in a single action, resulting in a renovated green
with sand-filled core holes.Tees The warm weather in October has led to significant
improvement in the tees, particularly on holes 3 and 12, while the remainder
are in excellent condition.All players are reminded that applying sand to divots,
especially on the par 3 tees, assists tee recovery.<o:p></o:p>



Tee renovations are scheduled for November following the
completion of the greens and will be carried out over several days to avoid
disrupting the golf program. The process will include a 19mm hollow tine, with
the extracted cores and spoil being rubbed back into the tee.Fairways The fairways have also coped well with the dry conditions,
though by the end of the month, the need for rain became apparent. Regular
applications of fertiliser and pigment have helped to maintain their health and
supported their recovery from winter. A granular fertiliser was applied just
before the rain at the end of October, and its effects should start to show in
early November. We are now on the fourth application of the latest Ground Pearl
trial product, which appears to be yielding positive results. Monitoring will
continue as we enter the active months for this species. Plans are also in
place to carry out fairway renovations during November, involving scarifying
with a trail-behind unit and coring with the Ventrac. As always, the schedule
will depend on the weather, and work will be spread over several days to
