Course Managers Report - Around the Greens in March 2023
Published Tuesday, 21st March 2023
In February we had 105mm of rain with one significant
fall of 57mm and the average maximum
temperature was 29 degrees with very high humidity. These factors combined to
make for an interesting, if not uncomfortable month.
The Greens performed magnificently for the month of Feb,
and the entire summer with no sign of dry patch or disease. The weevil activity
that we saw in January is still lingering but numbers have been controlled and
the crows that were hanging around and making a mess of those few greens have
departed.
Tees are performing extremely well in the warm, humid
weather and have fully recovered from last year’s wet weather with the
exception of a small area on the 15th tee. The turf on the 3rd
tee has struggled to establish but the other tees are holding a full and
vigorous coverage. Organic fertilizer will be applied as well as a synthetic
application to push them into the cooler months.
I’m extremely happy with the performance of our fairways
throughout February, except for a few small areas that are still struggling to
recover from last year’s wet weather. The 11th fairway is slowly
making progress and we have certainly seen a great deal of improvement with the
recent tree work.
