Carnarvon participated in the #DoingItForJarrod Campaign over the course of a week from Tuesday 10 November 2020 - Sunday 15 November 2020, supporting Kids with Cancer as supported by the Challenge Foundation. Thank you to all who offered support over the week. Carnarvon was able to raise funds of $5050 for this worthy cause.

A letter from David Rogers, Chief Executive Officer & Briony Lyle, #DoingItForJarrod Coordinator was recently received which has been detailed below:

Dear Mike and Carnarvon Golf Club members,

Thank you for so much for participating in the 2020 #DoingItForJarrod campaign (#DIFJ) in memory of Jarrod Lyle.

It is difficult to comprehend that Jarrod has not been with us for the past two years. He was committed and dedicated to improving the lives of children and families living with cancer, and we are proud that we can continue Jarrod’s work through this campaign.

In 2019, this initiative began so that we could raise funds for Challenge, in particular Jarrod’s Gift which is a program developed to honour Jarrod’s memory. Jarrod believed that it was the little things that make a difference to families travelling the cancer journey.

One of the little things Jarrod identified as being vitally important for families is around knowledge and education. Being able to comprehend what is happening to your child when they receive a cancer diagnosis is paramount for a family as it helps to understand the treatment process and stages they will travel through. We have been working on a number of illustration books where cartoon characters tell a story about cancer. These books will help guide children and families through a difficult time.

Financial assistance is another area that is essential for families, especially during this very difficult Covid-19 period. We have adapted our program to provide financial support to families in need, recognising that this gesture will make a huge impact.

Funds raised from the #DIFJ campaign are being directed towards both these areas and we know that more families will require financial assistance due to the current state of the world.

As a participant in the campaign, your club name will be recognised on a special PGA of Australia Honour Board that will be unveiled at “Yellow Day” on Friday 4 December at the 2020 Australian PGA Championship.

We hope you continue to support the #DIFJ campaign in honour of Jarrod.
