Course Managers Report - Around the Greens in February 2023
Published Wednesday, 15th February 2023
January delivered a total of 192mm of rainfall with the
majority of that coming in 2 significant rain events. An average maximum temp
of 27 degrees made for some good grass growing conditions.
The Greens performed very well throughout January. We have
seen some elevated Weevil activity recently with the warm humid conditions,
which in turn has brought on a small amount of damage from Crows digging up
greens looking for them.
The new greens mower which was delivered early in the
month has already shown beneficial signs on the Greens and an increased rate of
growth regulator has also helped to improve surfaces.
Autumn greens renovations
are scheduled to start on Sunday afternoon on the 12th of March and
be completed on Monday the 13th of March.
The tees are thriving in the current weather conditions.
We have seen a vast improvement in recovery and performance of the tee surfaces
during January. The turf has taken well on the 3rd tee and we’re
currently in the process of getting the height down to match the rest of the
tee. Some small areas are still recovering from the wet weather last year but
as a whole I’m happy with the condition of the tee surfaces.
Our fairways
are performing extraordinarily well. The recovery in bare areas has been
fantastic with most on the verge of being completely covered. I’m yet to see
any evidence of Ground Pearl activity but I am suspicious of a couple small
patches and will continue to monitor for activity and there is good news on the
horizon with regards to chemistry for the control of this pest.
Bunkers are an
ongoing concern with compacted and waterlogged sand slowing up the
draining process. 15 tonne of sand was added to the 1st and 10th
bunkers only for an 80mm storm to roll through and wash it all away. Bunker
drains and edges are on our list of things to rejuvenate.
