Carnarvon Golf Course Update to Members and Local Residents - October

Dear Members and local residents,

I am writing to provide another key update in our campaign to secure the long-term future of Carnarvon Golf Club - this is my fourth letter to you on this vital matter.  Thanks to your incredible support across several rallies, protests, events, petitions and feedback in so many different ways we have achieved several major milestones that strengthen our position.

The “consultation period” – not really what it was purported to be, with the Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) has now closed.  I am pleased to confirm that our comprehensive submission has been lodged.  This detailed presentation, prepared in collaboration with Local MP Lynda Voltz and Cumberland City Council (who have also submitted), clearly outlines why Carnarvon Golf Club must remain a recreational green space and should be excluded from any cemetery expansion considerations.

The paper-based petition to Parliament has been a resounding success thanks to the extensive support.  We not only reached, but exceeded the required signature threshold to trigger parliamentary debate!  This demonstration of community support has booked a dedicated debate in Parliament on 13th November 2025.  This is a game-changing opportunity to amplify our voice at the highest level and ensure Carnarvon is removed from the list once and for all.

While our lease remains secure until the end of 2035, these achievements bring us closer to safeguarding the site beyond that date.  To keep the momentum surging forward, I strongly encourage you to contact your local Members of Parliament right now - especially if you live outside the Carnarvon local area (where Lynda Voltz is already fully engaged).  Reach out to both your State and Federal MP’s to reiterate the community's overwhelming opposition to repurposing our Club and surrounding golf course.  A quick email, phone call, or letter highlighting the petition's success and the upcoming debate will make a real difference.  You can find your MPs' contact details here:

Every contact counts - please act today and encourage at least 10 friends, family members or colleagues to do the same!  We are hoping to add material and weight to the debate in November and pressure to the different electorates (some of which are marginal).

A heartfelt thank you for your unwavering support to date.  It's fantastic to see our "Save Carnarvon" and “No Cemetery” banners proudly displayed all over the community - your passion is inspiring and visible everywhere.  We also hope to see many of you at the club this Saturday for our special ‘Pink Army Thank You’ event, we will be putting on finger foods (on us), and the bar will run an extended happy hour between 3pm and 5pm followed by discounted meals in our Bistro.  Join us for an afternoon of food, drinks, and gratitude - details on our website or at reception.

This isn't just about golf - it's about preserving a cherished green space that boosts our health, biodiversity, property values, and quality of life for generations.  With your continued efforts, we will win this fight.  I will keep you updated as the 13th of November debate approaches and beyond.  As always, reach out with any questions or ideas.

Yours faithfully,

Adam McGregor
