Changes to the clubhouse - A letter from the club president
Published Sunday, 3rd September 2017
Dear Members,
I am writing this letter to inform you of some very pleasing information that is happening in the near future at our Club, Carnarvon Golf Club.
Some years ago, the Board of Carnarvon Golf Club had to comply with changes to legislation regarding smoking in Clubs. The Board at the time had to make some changes in the Club to maintain the level of trade needed to sustain the economic viability of the Club and to comply with the legislative changes. One of those measures was to move the Poker Machines to the outdoor area that overlooks the 18th green and to combine indoor and outdoor gaming within that area. While this move achieved its purpose of maintaining our gaming returns at an acceptable level, the move severely affected the comfort of our members and guests by diminishing the view of the course. The Board is well aware of the feeling within the Club with regard to the location of the Poker Machines and has been working to address the matter. The funds to relocate the Poker Machines to a more user-friendly position of members has always been an issue.
The Board was recently made aware of the increased value of Poker Machine entitlements and after some research by our General Manager Mitch Nakic, an offer was made to Carnarvon to sell six Poker Machine entitlements. The offer was very attractive and after lengthy consideration the Board approved the sale. The sale has provided the funds to renovate the Clubhouse and carry out improvements to the course.
As part of the renovations to the Clubhouse, the Poker Machine area will be moved into what is now the office area and the offices will move to the lower ground floor. The Members will be given back their lounge area and the view of the course. The renovations will include a new entrance foyer to the Club, Bar renovations, new carpet, furniture and an overall facelift of the Clubhouse.
Plans will soon be available on the notice board for viewing and for the information of Club Members.
Yours Sincerely,
John Honeybrook
President Carnarvon Golf Club
