Carnarvon Golf Course - Update to Members and Local Residents - August
Published Monday, 18th August 2025
An Update from the President, Peter Richardson
Dear Members,
We have today been contacted by Denise Ora, the CEO of the Metropolitan Memorial Parks Board, to advise us that there will be an announcement tomorrow regarding the proposal for Carnarvon Golf Club to be converted into a cemetery at the end of our current lease in 2035.
Whilst we do not know the full details of the announcement, the main points is that they are beginning a community consultation process tomorrow on the suitability of Carnarvon Golf Club to be converted into a cemetery. That process will last for 8 weeks and will include a website for feedback, community town halls, online webinars and face to face meetings. I have asked Denise if she would be available to meet with members of Carnarvon and she has said yes.
Member and community engagement during this process will be key to us influencing any recommendations that are made to the Minister. Members should be aware of the rally being planned for August the 31st at Coleman Park (the sports ground adjacent to the golf course at the northern end) by Lynda Voltz our local State MP and the Cumberland City Council and we strongly encourage all members to attend that rally.
This notice is mainly intended to provide members with a heads up that there will be an announcement tomorrow. We will provide further information to members in the next couple of days.
Regards
Peter Richardson
President
