Weather/Rainfall
Winter has started well, with 33 mm of rain and an average maximum temperature just over 20 degrees. Fingers crossed the weather plays nicely over the next couple of months so we can get through winter without too many issues.
Greens
The greens are performing as expected. They are speeding up and staying nice and firm. There is still a little bit of growth around thanks to the milder temperatures, along with the odd sign of disease, but this has been cleaned up quickly. The greens will be verti-drained with solid tines to help reduce compaction and improve air and water movement through the profile.
Tees
The tees are in their usual winter condition. The couch has slowed right down now that the nights are cooler, and soil temperatures have dropped.
We ask all golfers to please take a little extra care to repair and fill divots on the tees.
Fairways
The fairways were excellent through June. Turf has been laid on a few more bare patches caused by Ground Pearl, and there are some promising signs on the 17th where turf was laid, with a big drop in Ground Pearl numbers. Biological control has been underway in this area for the past six months. A run of dry weather would be ideal to help keep the fairways in good shape through winter.
Bunkers
The sand in the 10th bunkers has been replaced as planned. While this work was being done, the drain was also replaced with fresh gravel and new pipe. The face has been lowered and re-turfed as well.
We ask all golfers to please keep off the new grass as much as possible while it gets established. The 6th bunkers are next, with sand to be removed, drains cleaned out and the face lowered.
