Course Managers Report - Around the Greens in July 2023
Published Monday, 17th July 2023
June was another dry month with just 14mm falling in the month and cooler temperatures with an average max of 19.7 degrees. The course also weathered four good frosts, but the Greens still performed very well this month and have remained pest and disease free despite the number of unrepaired pitch marks.
Please repair pitch marks to help prevent pest and
disease on greens
The tee condition is typical for this time of year. Frosts and cold weather have all but stopped the growth of the couch grass. Tee surfaces are extremely clean of Poa and other grass weeds, showing our preventative and Kikuyu control programs are working well. Pigment and fertilizer applications will continue through winter to encourage growth.
Divots are an issue and again we remind members to
take the time to repair divots
Our fairways have dried out in some areas with the lack of rain and tree root encroachment. Several fairways have been root pruned to reduce tree root inclusion. Some early-stage ground pearl has been identified in the 5th and 6th fairways. New chemistry will be applied in these areas and turf has been laid in some stubborn bare areas around the course. The turf on the 11th fairway is progressing well and an intensive nutrition program is helping its progress.
Tree work has been carried out on the 5th with
six dead trees being removed from that rough line. Some new trees will be
planted in the rough near the front of the green. Some low branch trimming has
also been caried out.
